I like her debut more than 1989 tbh. I enjoy the debut a lot. Reminds me of high school in a fond way not a horrible way lol

It feels like it's kind of a joke song to me. Just feels like its intentionally immature which I find fun. Maybe she was being totally serious though and then it's less charming, haha.

Still holding out for a countryish release but I think the country world has shunned her.

Idk she was kind of a mess that era so I don't give her the benefit of the doubt haha. I know she was responding to stupid criticisms and I wish she would've addressed them for real, tho ultimately however she wants to is up to her. If they're joking lyrics idk they're still bad lyrics so I'm still not pleased!

Reminds me how some ppl said Bad Blood was purposefully bad lyrically to get at katy. Like I don't think she's dumb enough to compromise her music just to get back at someone but if she is that doesn't reflect well lol

The country station here still plays her older songs there's hope! Idk if I want her to do country again but I strongly dislike her full on pop stuff so I need her to move on

She and Brad Paisley played our huge college show we have every year. It's crazy bc no one had a clue who she was and that's what made me check out more of her
    music.

I would really, really like a country album from Taylor at this point. I like 1989, but do not want another record in that vein.

I remember when radio would play teardrops on my guitar and talk about how she was the next big songwriter and was gonna be huge. Which is partly why sometimes her underdog shtick confused me lol cause it wasn't even country radio

Also our college never got anyone good to perform. The only artist I'd ever even heard of was OK Go and I only know the one song and it was years after their relevance peak

OK GO was supposed to play with Phantom Planet at my school but they had scheduling conflicts so it wound up just being Phantom Planet

we also got Third Eye Blind, Gym Class Heroes, Wiz and Kid Cudi, and Jason Mraz

I'd totally see phantom planet. I'm a terrible person and I blast California whenever I drive down there. I guess I didn't go to a big enough school to get the concerts. Then again there were venues all over the city so it wasn't hard to just go to those.

We did have a drag queen night that was always a big hit tho. It always sold out and the line went for blocks so I never got to see it.

Emotion just didn't leave my stereo for a loooong time. For an 80s pop influenced album, 1989 got old much quicker than Emotion did. That's all I'm saying. But I'd take Red over Emotion.

It does suck when an album gets overshadowed by another release. I think Leighton meester's album and 1989 leaked around the same time so I only listened to Leighton's once and kinda forgot about it until I remembered and came back to it later even tho I really liked it

The country music scene would welcome Taylor with open arms like Cleveland did Lebron.

I still love my favorite songs off 1989 and still think it's a really strong pop album, but I also would like a different approach for her next album. The best parts of Red are the best she's ever sounded, at least for me; more in that general vein would be ideal.

Well she's 5 albums deep and hasn't really repeated anything she's done before so I have faith in her next lo-fi project.

She's a chameleon so who knows what the next album will sound like.

  24. Lots of takes in the past few days. My thoughts on the ones I remember without going back and quoting everyone:

    - I want her to put out a rock record in the same vein as her restylings of "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "WANEGBT" on the 1989 tour.
    - I loved that first release, but I will be shocked if anything she writes ever surpasses Red for me.
    - Emotion is great. 1989 is great. They're both great, but I think Jepsen went way harder for the 80's thing, to the extent that comparing them feels disingenuous.
    - I disagree that the lyrics on "Bad Blood" or "Mean" were bad. I think the lyrics on "Mean" were intentionally childish because it's about a bully - which is something that tends to illicit rather childish emotions and reactions in people since that's when bullying usually starts. In regards to "Bad Blood" - I get why people might not like it sonically (I do, because it feels appropriate), but if you've got a former friend who fits the bill in your life then you know she absolutely 100% nailed it lyrically there. Is it simple? Yeah, but that kind of anger IS pretty simple. "You hurt me. We're not cool. You do you, but we're not cool." I guess I just disagree that the lyrics are bad, as opposed to an intentional departure from her usual lyrical style to display a specific, very primal set of emotions.
    - I feel like I needed a 5th bullet, so.
