    No particular order:
Night of The Living Dead (1990)
    Train To Busan
    Dawn of the Dead
    Shaun of the Dead
Resident Evil (only the first one)

Don't know that I have a favorite but more of a rotating list including several that have already been mentioned. I know it's different but I would also mention Fulci's Zombi if for nothing else the underwater scene. Also I remember being super surprised and impressed by The Battery a few years ago.

man there's a lot to like about Day of the Dead. the script is super tight, it builds the tension admirably and there are multiple character arcs which shape up nicely and pay off in dramatically satisfying ways. I mean this is a movie where a goddamn zombie has an arc, and it's somehow not complete dead air (in fact the payoff with Bub chasing Rhodes through the base is some of Romero's greatest work)

basically I couldn't fault anyone who had it as their favourite of the original trilogy. in some ways I think it's the best, but... it's just also the least fun to watch. it doesn't have the terrifying documentary feel of Night or the satirical dark humour of Dawn. I guess it fills those gaps with character stuff, and there are still some great scares but it can't help feeling a bit anemic on the heels of two classics (especially with the somewhat bland base just looking like a poor replacement for one of the all time great movie sets in the shopping mall)

  7. The first time I watched Day of the Dead, I kind of hated it (I think I had just seen Dawn and my expectations were skewed), but now, I love it. The main thing that kills it for me is the overacting. It's still no Dawn, but I'd have to rewatch Night of the Living Dead to see how it compares.

  11. It was fun! A little underwritten, but it's so cartoonish and easy on the eyes, plus some genuinely great kills. I don't think I stopped smiling once during the last 30 minutes or so.

Excited for this. I liked Scare Me well enough (except the end) but wanted to see where Josh Ruben went next. Trailer looks great.

did Land/Diary of the Dead tonight

Land is still almost really, really good but it constantly just pulls back into frustrating and dull territory instead. all the stuff happening on the periphery is so much more interesting than some stuff about tracking a truck that I couldn't care less about, and Riley is just a black hole at the middle of the movie sucking up time and interest - my fucking god that dude is boring. worth a watch for Hopper and Leguizamo doing their thing, but it misses more often than it hits

on the other hand, yeah, I still fucking love Diary. maybe above Day in my top 3 of the series. only Romero could take such a potentially annoying format and set of characters and make an absolutely pulse-pounding ride out of it; the lead characters are constantly surprising you and the humans are scarier than the zombies (who get some screamers in, though - blow for blow it's the scariest movie in the series)

just cannot bring myself to watch Survival again no matter what, think I'll call it on my rewatch there. maybe throw in Return of the Living Dead tomorrow night to go out on a good note

  16. I really enjoyed Land, but I'll add Diary to my list for this weekend.

Music, Gaming, Movies and Guys = Life

Dead & Buried is finally getting a Blu-ray and 4K release to celebrate its 40th Anniversary, a bit pricey for the 4K release but I don't care as it finally means I don't have to deal with shoddy DVD quality.
