For real. I will be the first to admit guilt in not always being as careful as we should have been, but we got a dose of reality when my wife got it. The whole “my friends and family cant possibly be sick” mentality has probably, quite literally, killed thousands of people.

Nah I've seen others posting about the surge in school age kids in England as well. I don't understand the "despite vaccination" comment though because, obviously, kids aren't vaccinated.

But according to the Brit epidemiologists I've seen on twitter, apparently there's not a mask mandate in the UK schools, which would definitely lend itself to spread

Seems like a dumb position to take of “I got vaccinated but I’m still going to basically act like I’m not” because not as many people are vaccinated that should be for herd immunity. We already know that it’s still a very low chance that vaccinated people get covid and an even lower chance that they get covid and have more than a mild case. The fear some people are spreading in here just isn’t backed by the data and science, but to each their own I guess.

I'm still avoiding most things while case numbers are so high/rising here. I have stepped foot inside a grocery store for the first time in over a year now, but I'm not rushing out to do shit quite yet.

Of course during the school year, especially this end of year stretch, I don't do much shit anyway lol

I don't know how I'm gonna be able to loosen up my precautions because I'm deeply traumatized by all this, but the whole idea of the vaccine is people can be exposed but it's not as brutal

We took the kids out for a 3-mile walk on like a nature trail inside conservation land, and we maybe passed 4 or 5 other people on the entire several hour trip. We masked up each time we got close to passing anyone. But honestly, the thought of walking by someone on a trail and not putting on my mask and forcing my kids to mask up too felt to me like the prospect of literally just having sex with a total stranger that I know nothing about without putting on a condom. I don't think those things are comparable but that is how it felt.

Nah we did the same when we were up in the mountains a bit ago. Kid wasn't with us but still. I know outside is much less likely but, again, as long as the numbers are this high in this area, I'm not feeling great passing within a foot of people as they exhale deeply lol.

We're going to the beach for a week in mid June, that should be an interesting experience.

Nearby town is planning on having fireworks for the 4th. The article about it says “fully vaccinated people may gather downtown”..

oh, the outrage on this post.

We're clearly still seeing a lot of cases of vaccine breakthrough, which is understandable given how the vaccine works.

Math might not come out to 20x more interactions being 20x more likely. But until we actually get cases back down to a low level, there is still going to be a non-insignificant risk to fully reopening everything. And seems like the only way we're gonna get cases back down to a low level is by getting more people vaccinated.

We bought tickets to see Chris Stapleton play a show at an outdoor venue in October. I'm like 70/30 on not going/going at this point. I think my wife is 50/50. But if it were an indoor concert I would be 100% against going. You literally couldn't pay me to go. You couldn't force me inside at fucking gunpoint.

my hope is the summer brings more outdoor activities which brings numbers as low/lower than they were last summer

I’m nearly two weeks past my second dose and would love to just go to a bar but more so am still really freaked out by the idea of going to a bar or any other sort of “normal” activity for a while, I’ve rationalized it by thinking I don’t want to validate people who haven’t adhered to shit thinking that we’re all a-ok ready to be back to normal. But in reality it’s more just the fear that’s keeping me from doing anything for a while.

  18. I’d be fine seeing an outdoor concert once all vaxxed.

Just went to Disney World as a fully vaccinated gift for my mom who’s been stuck inside for the past year.

All of the covid measures are safety theatre, and literally no one was following any of the distancing guidelines, many people had their noses hanging out of their masks.

Judging from the majority of people down here in Orlando that are openly flaunting the rules put in place, we’re never getting rid of this...Florida is wild...

I think the walking by strangers on a path in the woods thing today really reinforced just how much effect this pandemic has had on my mental health and really drove home how fucked up I'm going to be in the head for A WHILE, even if the numbers and stuff get down to a reasonably controlled level of spread. (Which they are absolutely not at yet. Not even close.)

Fully vaccinated, been going to the gym with mask and it’s been night and day difference in my mental, emotional, and (obvious) physical health after not being there for over a year. Sore and weak (~25-33% reduction in weight pre-COVID) but it’s worth it.
