definitely a good time to take advantage of shudder’s Val Lewton collection! Very atmospheric and an interesting movie to analyze through queer lens in 2021

since listening to this week’s horror queer episode, I’m so close to buying the criterion collection Silence of the Lambs blu-ray:crylaugh:

Just finished Body Double, it's problematic and a Vertigo / Rear Window rip off. I loved it.

I'm a sucker for LA movies and it delivers. The final set piece is a place I drive by every time I go back to my hometown and there was a scene shot down the street from I live now. But yeah that closing credit scene is... yikes.

Binged all of the Creepshow remake on Prime and loved it.

  8. I did not enjoy Body Double, it was aesthetically interesting but the decision to make out with someone you don't know aside from knowing they've been stalking you is baffling and a lot the character decisions after that followed suit. Maybe I'm not a De Palma guy

I liked Body Double but not as much as I was expecting to. I did not really like Dressed to Kill. Blow Out is 100% my favorite of his.

Hope it’s good. Haven’t enjoyed any really since the Jessica Biel remake.

As a trans person, Dressed to Kill is one of my problematic favs.

  15. Dolls was so much fun, and Head of the Family is legitimately the craziest movie I've ever seen. That's saying something. I have such a soft spot for these low-budget, Full Moon adjacent, straight to video flicks.

I watched Dolls for the first time last October and fell in love, that movie rules.

Just picked up Pumpkinhead and Slumber Party Massacre from the Shout Factory steelbook sale.

    Same.

I remember the great visuals with Dolls. Such a great hidden gem.

Has anyone seen "Them" on Amazon? I saw a lil teaser for it on my firestick and thought for sure that it was some kind of a sequel to "Us" but I don't see Jordan Peele attached to it anywhere.

Was curious about this show as well. Just looked it up and it's getting ripped to shreds by critics as exploitative of the new popularity of Black Horror, morally bankrupt, schlocky. Vulture used the term Degradation Porn.

So yeah, it seems to be offensive in how it handles the racial themes and also inept with handling the horror homage.

  20. Don't know much about it tbh but this piece popped up on my feed

    Them Is Pure Degradation Porn

  21. Lots of people hating on it in the streaming services thread

Back to De Palma though, I think the only older or obscure one of his I've seen is The Fury but I guess I need to check out some of these other mentioned.

  25. I think I've only seen Carrie, Scarface, and now Body Double? But Paul Rust is so enthusiastic in his analysis of DePalma on this Gourley and Rust episode that it's making me excited to give Blow Out a go (and revisit Carrie)
