Another thought I had about the CDC saying 5800 vaccinated people got covid is I wonder how many of them were actually exposed to covid? Obviously, a majority of people who are vaccinated probably were never exposed to be begin with. So just doing 5800/66 million isn’t going to truly give you the effectiveness. Am I right to say that?

 

Yes. Which is to say no one should be saying the vaccines are 99.9999% effective, but thankfully we don't need them to be anywhere near that. It is another data point (in line with the trials and the real numbers from this spring in Israel) that indicates they are incredibly good at what they were developed to do. (Not saying you're suggesting otherwise, but I do worry that devil's advocate twitter is going to have a field day with this.)

I have 3 people from the same household on my department, all 3 were diagnosed 3-5 days after their first vaccine. They are all fully vaccinated now, but does that count? Or are these just infections after both doses?

 

It was just for people who were fully vaccinated
