The Boston Marathon bombing was 8 years ago? Yikes does time move. I was in college down the street and planned on going with a few roommates. However, my friend back home threw a house party and I ended up not getting back to the city in time. My friends were literally right where the bombs went off but they left shortly before it happened. I get freaked out thinking if I were there would we have stayed longer?

Already seeing someone trying to blame the vaccine on a principal in Michigan dying from blood clots. Only thing is this was due to different type of blood clot. This clot was in his lungs and not the brain like the J&J vaccine has been, also it was a male as well. He also had been traveling via plane which has an increases your risk for clots.

I got to work yesterday and two of our residents and one of my coworkers were discussing how the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was on hold because '6 people had died so far from blood clots' and for some reason it really got to me how the misinformation / telephone game effect was already kicking in so strong. I tried to find the hard facts and show them that it is a very specific and very rare type of clotting that they are talking about, it has been found so far in females in a specific age range, and that from what I could find at that time nobody had been confirmed to have died from it: 1 person was in the ICU in critical condition, 2 others were still hospitalized and 3 had been hospitalized and released at that point. Also, 1 other person had been confirmed to have died under conditions that seemed to point to this being the cause after having received the J&J vaccine, but it was still under investigation. This was all very different than 6 people having died from ordinary blood clots, but they looked at me like I was a crazy person spouting conspiracy theories for trying to tell them the actual facts at that time.

the deaths number is a bit disappointing unfortunately, just because we had been hearing so much about lack of severe illness and death and etc. But that may be a variant issue as well. Boosters this summer/fall for the new variants will hopefully help

People don't read information or barely understand it. They get shit in little headlines, short videos, or passed from someone else. I have noticed this on a different board for a specific sports team. Someone posts an article, most people don't read past the headline, then reactions to something that was specifically spelled out in the article that contradicts their reaction.

I mean 74/66,000,000 is .0001%. I don't think 100% protection against death was ever realistic so I really don't know how much better that number could possibly be.

  13. Yeah, those numbers are ridiculously out of this world good.

YEah I didn't mean to sound like a downer, I imagine it's similar numbers for the flu too where some people who get vaxed still die. It was just nice to keep pumping out that "no one who's been vaxed has died" line. ANd it was good for my mental health lol

My wife's ethics professor told them in class last week that 0.5% of the people who got vaccinated died lol

Obviously zero deaths would be amazing, but like others have said, I don't think that was ever realistic. Those 74 deaths are in light of something that was running uncontrolled across our country, infecting *at least* 31,431,167 people and counting, and killing 564,489 people and counting. I mean, 769 people in the US died from COVID-19 on April 13th alone. You wouldn't even know that hundreds of people are still dying from this every day. Those 74 deaths are still terrible and awful and they were 74 human beings, but in the grand scheme of things they come at a time when we are just starting to fight back and get this thing under control maybe just a tiny bit.

*Edited to add that my wife and I had several long, serious conversations this weekend about how we have slightly let our guard down at a time when variants are now dominant and spreading fast in our state and our kids are not vaccinated yet. And these are variants that are affecting kids. We concluded that we need to get our shit together and tighten our bubble back up and not fuck this up in the home stretch.

Wasn't it kind of obvious when Macron won that Le Pen was going to come back and win the next election?

So Macron only wins among 18-24 year olds and 65+?

    What an odd coalition.
