Why are you so heated about it, haha? I grew up on Em. He's one of the most influential/important musicians in my life. Absolutely was one of the reasons I got into the genre. He also hasn't made anything worthwhile in almost 20 years. I don't need J. Cole or 50 Cent to tell me why they like Eminem, I have plenty of 30-40 year old friends and relatives who put him on a pedestal higher than any other artist. I've heard the same argument my entire life.

I hate all rappers that bite his style too if it makes you feel better ;D

This is insanely inaccurate to me lol.

Why do I have to be “heated” because my opinion differs from yours? We’ve made it through discourse over Rob Zombie horror movies no reason we can’t debate this too haha.

Same. If I hadn't heard My Name Is... on the radio 22 years ago, I probably wouldn't have listened to the Radio One Rap Show he was on with Dre and I wouldn't have been as much of a rap fan as I am now. And if he had stayed as consistent as he was in the first 3/4 years of his career, I'd absolutely still be a fan. But tastes change.

I think that most of the regs in here are just burnt out over the Em discourse. Not your fault or anything.

His verse on Moon Man & Slim might’ve been my favorite/the best of 2020 alone.

    M2BMB is phenomenal.
Killshot, The Ringer, Not Alike, No Favors, Forever....

I think I just decided on my playlist for today.

People who defend Em always seem to be defending his legacy and albums that came out decades ago. Dude is washed up now.

Is that for me? Cause you posted it under a listing of work he’s done all within the past 10 years that I find to be great, and not even half of what I like from those years.

Also kills it on the Conway The Machine feature.

I’m an outlier, Eminem had 0% to do with me getting into rap music

Oh definitely. As I said above, the lack of hip hop thread regulars in Eminem threads is telling.

I think Eminem’s music of the last 20 years is mostly bad because he raps hysterically and the beats are terrible to me, not because he can’t rap or anything because he obviously can

I really liked Eminem when I was 13, but I think cringe is the most accurate word to describe him now and a lot of his more vocal defenders.

I've also just lost interest in that kind of really technically impressive but not saying anything that really matters style of rap.

I will say that his continued commercial success is a bad argument, because I really don’t think you want to know what kind of people make up 90% of his active fanbase. I think he’d be ashamed frankly. I think the fact that he had to “draw lines in the sand” for his fans regarding Trump says it all. His success has said very little about his place in Hip Hop in many years. In the context Hip Hop alone, he’s closer to being a legacy act than going concern. He’s not Jay Z, even though he outsells Jay Z.

No, was a late post so I hadn't seen your list. Glad you dig his newer stuff. I don't at all. His delivery is just so inauthentic and contrived, and the lyrics feel very uninspired to me, and the beats are pretty bad too. His early stuff is too angry for me to listen to anymore, so there's really nothing that Em does for me at all.

Yeah the accent that he developed after Encore was what put me off. I still really tried to get into the stuff after it, and there's 1-2 tracks on Recovery that I enjoyed, but after that I just lost all interest. He can still rap well when he wants to, but it's not the type of beats that I'm interested in and he's not saying anything (from what I've heard) that I really care about.

I'm 33, grew up with TRL and Eminem was everywhere, but I never was a fan, never was part of me getting into hip hop at all. If anything he turned me off of getting into the genre early on. The big one for me around that time period was Jay-z, Black Album was HUGE for me getting into hip hop further.

Retrospectively, I've listened to the first few Eminem albums in full, and while I understand he is technically talented, it's just not my thing overall.

That has been my relationship with Eminem too. I’m 31.

I’ve said several times that the only Eminem album I would consider listening to now is Infinite, because I sometimes like that kind of dusty 90s underground rap.

Even on the classics, the beats have really not aged well. Just like, ugly sounding music haha. My Name Is and Stan still sound good.

I remember going back to the likes of '97 Bonnie & Clyde and Kim a couple of years ago and feeling really uncomfortable. There are still a lot of tracks off those first two albums I still love and occasionally go back to, though.

I’ve heard him get a lot of respect by all kinds of different rappers because he has a real freestyle battle rap past. Rappers just like that. I have also heard rappers from the Bay praise G-Eazy for being really about the Bay basically lol Different perspectives like that are always interesting

I really think Eminem should start meditating to slow and calm down his raps and then just make an album with only Buckwild beats, with absolutely no intent of commercial success. Imagine.
