Once his hype was over Asher actually started making some real shit.

I wouldn’t call myself a fan but he is unfairly maligned.

Asher went over a ton of great beats around 2010-12. Seared Foie Gras and Pabst and Jazz are both solid mixtapes. He put on a lot of other solid rappers too.

I didnt say anything about Jack Harlow because I've only heard the singles and don't feel any way about them.

I recently posted my top five white rappers list (Eminem isn’t one of them btw) lol we talked about some good white rappers here then

Yeah guys like Roth and Mac Miller got a lot more interesting when they stopped doing cosplay and leaned into the shit they actually liked. Harlow is still young, so there's time.

Tbf, though, if those tapes came out today I don't think I'd pay any attention to them either haha.

Probably missed it all. Not uncommon for me to come back to a thread I subbed but not catch up on all pages.

Personally for me I couldn’t possibly rank another white rapper above Em but to each their own.

I was gonna continue with that McDonalds metaphor by saying how young kids can consume McDonalds more and be fine after. But I have a colleague at work who's 40 and wont stop singing Harlow's praise, so I dunno if the metaphor works for me haha

99 - 02 Em, sure. He's been average since IMO.

Even giving Em the credit he deserves and discounting the last like 20 years of his career, I still put him 4 behind each Beastie.

So what, Eminem’s favorite rapper is Treach, I don’t see you calling him the G.O.A.T. now lol

I mean, we all know why people consider Em the GOAT (aside from race, which is also why a ton of people consider him the GOAT). He's, on a technical level, one of the best to ever do it, he's engaging and funny and he has a true talent for creating imagery in his songs. I get it.

Beastie Boys, Evidence and The Grouch especially all have overall discographies that are so much better than Em’s

Very true. Rapper always tend to favor technical rappers.

It just think it’s not true that he outshines all other white rappers rappers (let alone all rappers period) when you look at the whole picture.

Both Evidence and the Beastie Boys have just as many classics as Em IMO. Beastie Boys have more. Their first album aside, they both have made albums that have aged very well and still sound fresh. And as much as I like early Em, a lot of stuff he made in those early days hasn't aged well.

Takes a lot for me to fall in love with a white rapper TBH. I can't stand Eminem.

I like El-P, Aesop Rock, Action Bronson, Mac Miller, Slug, Eyedea.

It wasn’t posted to say he’s everyone’s favorite rapper. Most opinions given in that compilation have extremely valid points and explain how he’s viewed amongst the greatest in the game and why he’s held in such high regard. It’s not just his technicality. But seeing as how the video is 15 minutes I know not a single one of you watched lol.

And I just find it funny that you have so much evidence (longevity, praise from the greatest in hip hop/rap on regular basis across the board, artist who very much DO bite his style or try very hard to work with him, and of course sales) and here’s this small pocket of white guys on an Internet forum like “yeah I mean, I get it but nah.”

Also I just had a skim over a couple of Eminem album threads on here and there's so few hip hop thread regulars in them haha
