I wish matt wasn't an awful person. I miss this band and can not listen to them in good conscience

 

Im pretty sure Dan was recording a new emergency room record(?) Im patiently waiting for that.

 

He didn't say what it was exactly but my guess it's a ER record ! He also said him and Matt are trying to write Trio stuff.

 

What proof do you have that he’s an awful person?

Eh, there’s some problematic shit that’s gone on. I don’t think he really believes in the shit he has associated himself with at times, I think he just doesn’t realize that with his platform he has to be careful a lit what he’s promoting to his followers. 15-20 years ago it might not have mattered but we’ve seen on today’s internet how easy it has become for young white kids to get radicalized. Matt might just think Nazi history and symbols are interesting to read about and are good macabre imagery for art, but no doubt there’s more than a few of his followers who pick up on some of that stuff just think it’s cool in general. He’s too immature to realize that though, and his repeated posting of stuff like that and association with people who have come off as more sympathetic to nazism have rightfully caused people to side eye him a little bit.

I haven’t gone that far with the hate just because I know ever since I’ve followed this band he’s been pretty outspokenly liberal on social issues so I’d find it hard to believe he shares any fascist/Nazi beliefs. But I can still say that he maybe needs to chill with the posting of some stuff.

 

Yeah Skiba’s problem is his filter, which he has none.

 

I'd say his problem is his defense of and continued friendship with p*do asia argento, but that's just me.

Not to mention he is friends with at least one actual Nazi who he's such good friends with he features on an Alkaline Trio song! Luv 2 defend Friends Of Nazis.

People seem to not like Skiba for who he knows and associates with, his interests and his persona.
I feel like people turned up on the Matt hate when he replaced Tom in Blink. Being weird is not a crime. I get there is a legit complaint to be made about some of these people he knows and he does have a major interest in counter culture which creates a certain image. But he’s not really at the centre of the controversy. He just intentionally seems to make himself a target.

 

idk I think putting an actual Nazi on your band's record is pretty egregious on its own regardless of what other shitty pop-punk band he's currently playing guitar in, but hey maybe that's just me

 

Even if that were the case, it's a valid concern considering joining blink means getting a suddenly much larger following. Suddenly the weird shit you post that has nazi imagery in it and the books you read are reaching a much wider audience, which means more people possibly influenced. I wouldn't' think anything of it even 10 years ago, but we've seen the proof now of how theres an entire generation of people out there who have no idea how to read and think critically and would totally be the types of idiots to see a book skiba is reading and read it too and think there's actually some good ideas or some shit in it. In other words, you don't want to send unsuspecting people down the wrong rabbit hole.

 

The Blink following is questionable at best. The crude and vulgar jokes. I don’t think I need to run down all the stuff you could consider problematic that’s Blink related. Most people know it’s not to be taken with any degree of seriousness.

There was so much Nazi imagery at the assault on the US Capitol. If you are worried about just Matt Skiba there’s something wrong. It’s funny because he seems to be in love with the fringe. On the same day I see someone call him a racist I see him in a music video with Steve Aoki. I don’t question the fact that Matt puts himself in this position, but his interests and hobbies are his. I feel like no one was questioning him until he got into Blink, even though there are some dark lyrics in Trio.

 

Well to be fair, his name gets brought up more now by being in blink and the esteem that the band holds. I also don’t really see a lot of Matt hate outside of this site other than for the fact that he is not Tom Delonge haha

 

Fuck him, he's friends with Nazis. And fuck anyone who defends or minimizes being friends with Nazis too!

 

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say most of the people expressing worry at some of the stuff Skiba pushes aren't only concerned about him. Like it's definitely possible to be worried about QAnon and fascism under Donald Trump AND side eye Skiba for posting some questionable things lol.

And my point was that I think the changing reality of our times+Skiba suddenly being introduced to a much wider audience is why people started saying "hold up". Like I think we all underestimated how much what people were seeing on the internet was leading people into the wrong things and now that we're realizing it, we're adjusting attitudes accordinigly. I think most people's points is maybe Matt has to just think about what he's putting out there and consider what some in the audience may get from it. There's a context in our world right now where the rise of white nationalism should kind of make you rethink what imagery you're using and what info you're putting out there and etc.

 

A normal person will generally consider what they put out there.

Matt, kind of thrives off going against the norm. People trying to change that just feeds the weird. Guy had a Church of Satan membership to just freak people out.

I feel like his influence in this band is minimal. Even now years later people talk about Tom more. And the content that concerns people about Matt have not “infiltrated” Blink in any significant way other than saying he had a Marilyn Manson painting.

He should watch his content closer but some people have tried to fuel this for their own motivations.
