I read they even give free earplugs when entering their shows

I’ve switched brands a few times, but there are several options for music/concert earplugs around the same price on Amazon. I switched them out every 3-4 months or so when I was going to shows every week (or more). Anyone that goes to shows regularly should invest in this. I’m 32 and the tinnitus is already SO REAL

Oh yeah hearing is very cool and not worth losing over some noisy band lol. Invest in quality earplugs so you lose volume not frequency.

Speaking of excessively loud bands, it'd also be cool if Sunn O))) played a fest like Riot. Doubt them and MBV would ever come to fruition, but crazier things have happened.

Wearing earplugs is important but I feel like if you get bands like MBV or Sunn O))) to play it’s risky because not everyone is aware how loud they are or is aware how necessary earplugs are. Plus wouldn’t their loudness affect other stages more so than bands that aren’t excessively loud?

I imagine they'd probably do it similarly to how they did it at Thalia when I saw Sunn O))) play there - put up almost excessive warnings everywhere that you need to wear earplugs. Though these further practical considerations make me realize how borderline impossible it would be for them to play, but it's still a fun pipe dream.

Festivals generally have dB limits for that exact reason

I saw Sunn O))) at Primavera Sound back in 2015 and you could see a lot of people placing their hands in their ears, and more than 50% of the crowd left halfway through their set. Now Im curious if their sound leaked to other stages

The two loudest bands I’ve seen live were Sleep at FYF 2017, and the Melvins a couple years back

I wore earplugs for both sets and my ears were still ringing afterwards

The Melvins are, without a doubt, the loudest band I have ever seen live. I saw them in a ~900 capacity room, wore earplugs, and my ears still felt kinda wrecked the next day. By comparison, I saw Prophets of Rage shortly after in the same venue and was perfectly fine.

To be honest, no other performances really stand out as being particularly loud to uncomfortable degrees. Except in instances where I was standing next to a speaker or whatever. But that's more on me for standing next to the speaker...

i know ive dealt with crazy loud bands but they all start to blend together but the loudest (and one of the worst) sets ive ever seen was the EDM group Darkside at lolla '14. excruciating. people on the lolla thread built them up as one of the must sees for weeks, but it was obnoxious and painful, and i was at the back!

i know nothing about audio engineering, but at a fest with so many bands, how does one even be allowed to go to that level of loud? does each band bring their own guy to control the boards, or is it someone hired by a fest to do it for every body on that stage? i alays imagined it would be the latter which is why it confuses me cuz id figure that person would notice and turn them down a bit.. but like i said, i know nothing of that aspect of the biz.

I'm turning 40 this year, I could care less if concerts affect my hearing.. the dumb things I've done hasn't affected it yet

Loudest band I've seen is '68, the early shows Josh was cranking the volume wayyyy up.

I’m starting to believe there is a chance we will be seeing MCR this year...

had a great talk with someone in the industry, and the logistics are a nightmare but it looks like that tour is a sure thing.

Colorado just opened up eligibility for everyone 16+ as of yesterday and CVS locations here apparently have tons of vaccine in stock.

So even though America seems to be trying as hard as possible to royally fuck this up again at the last minute, I think with the highest risk populations vaccinated firsts, deaths and serious illnesses are already plummeting, which is why lockdowns and restrictions happened in the first place.

Also PSA to everyone, if you don't have earplugs or don't wear them regularly, start when shows come back. I got a pair of reusable ones that I keep in a keychain pod and it's the best investment I've ever made.
