This is exactly why I'm not "cancelling" Gorillaz or anything. The amount of people who are in the dark about NFTs is great and this situation certainly seems like something stems from someone down the line making a marketing decision and the band not being aware of all the details. There's so many things in play here and NFTs are fairly recent so it's no surprise to me it's not in everyone field of view.

I'd like to give them the chance to make things right now that it's been brought to their attention. Everyone is so quick to burn everyone down who makes a mistake and won't allow any time for growth.

It's easy to just say this: NFTs are trash.

That tweet is actually a decent summation of what they are lol. An NFT is basically a claim of ownership over a digital code. It’s ridiculous because it could be something like a gif or video that is perfectly public and the owner can’t *stop* anyone from using it as they would normally. You may think “why would someone do that,” and the answer is: to sell it for a greater amount than you paid to get it. It’s like art ownership or rare baseball cards (except even stupider because at least those could have personal/aesthetic value rather than purely being a financial asset) and currently experiencing an absurd bubble

The environmental part comes in because for some reason beyond my understanding, NFTs are “mined”(?) using basically the same blockchain tech as stuff like bitcoin. That technology uses an absurd amount of power because it’s using countless computers to automatically go through tons of data to find new ones (again this is beyond my understanding but it doesn’t really matter). From this article - Heard NFTs are bad for the environment? Here's what that means

“The problem is that many creators, especially those who jumped on the NFT bandwagon in its earliest stages, are separated from that energy-consumption process. Many do not realize that creating the NFTs they are now profiting from required an enormous amount of raw computing power. Ethereum mining consumes about 26.5 terawatt-hours of electricity a year. To put that into perspective - that is nearly as much energy used annually by the entire country of Ireland.”

one last ride then it's night night forever

Imagine knowing a child abuser wrote a song called Age Ain't Nothing But A Number and still saying shit like this. Or knowing that another was recorded being creepy with underage girls and saying this. I don't even know what to say to "child abuse isn't my business as a human being" jesus christ.

"My mother always said I had sex appeal," Aaliyah says. "Even when I was very young, when I would take pictures, there was something sexual about me. I do feel sexy for sure. I enjoy it."

  24. Not that I think most people around here were dying for it, but I did just notice that Issues (the band that until recently was fronted by the sexual abuser Tyler Carter) has posted an instrumental version of their most recent record. Idk if it was on the books anyway or what, but it was released shortly after the allegations about him came out. If it was deliberate, that’s kind of an interesting move and cool for fans that maybe dig the music but don’t wanna bear his voice anymore
