  3. Yeah, this was...something. Just looked into the Twitter thing and yeesh. I'm not a huge McElroy fan anymore, but I almost feel for him realizing that the need for acceptance/validation from a very specific crowd online is not healthy. It's a good realization to have and I hope he learns from it, even for his own sake.

    Thanks for the context.

That clip is very embarrassing lol. What’d he say on Twitter

  5. He initially tweeted about how he was straight and not attracted to Harry Styles, but that he would be happy to hold his hand should they ever end up on a date together, then tweeted that he was surprised that he wasn't bisexual, then deleted both of those tweets and said he had talked to a friend and realized he'd fallen into a pattern of tweeting things he thought his followers would find "progressive and cool" for validation. He apologized for tweeting things that could potentially be harmful without thinking and for taking so long to understand that.

Again, not a McElroy fan, but the apology read as genuine (to me) and it's a pretty important realization to have when you have a platform that relying on/pandering to your fanbase for constant validation is not healthy (not to mention the tweets in question being very dumb)

I like the McElroys...Justin and Griffin specifically because of Monster Factory, but holy fucking shit did that suck lol. MF and the show are both great, and if that vid is your first impression of them i'd say at the very least cut the other two a break haha.

Yeah, I'm not a mbmbam superfan or anything, but I've always found Justin and Griffin to be really funny and Travis to be super cringey for the most part. I couldn't even get through that video

I listened to ~5 episodes of mbmbam because of this thread and... yea I don’t get it

  12. I loved it for a while, watched Monster Factory and the TV series in college, listened to the pod and watched through Car Boys after, but somewhere along the way, a flip got switched and now I just find it way too twee. Don't think it helps that a lot of their fanbase seems very neolib

It makes me mad to know that when I buy something from Gallery 1988, some of that goes in his pocket.

At least from the Get Up On This podcast, he always came off as a pompous know it all, rubbed me the wrong way

He was basically called out for being a content thief, like trying to sell a shirt of a Photoshop of Shaq done by The Onion without their permission, his two businesses (Patti Lapel and Gallery 1988) basically selling unauthorized pins and paintings without the studio's permission - that may have changed in the past five years. He also used to jeer "Lip Sync Battle" and then created his own show in the same vein, "Drop The Mic" with Friend of the Dough Eliza Skinner.

  18. Yeah, Jack Allison mentioned he was a real jerk in the writer's room in addition to being a hack/idea thief.

The McElroys seem like good dudes despite the embarrassing shit from Travis recently. I've had enough of the pod to last me a long while but the MBMBAM TV show is fantastic.

The Jensen thing went has gone from gross/funny to exhausting. Should have stopped with the PFT tweet and just summed it up when he had more info. But clout knows no bounds.

You could just stop following it?

personally, if I had shrimp tails in my CTC I would literally never stop talking about it. It’s also fascinating how weird the company is being about it.

I had no idea who Karp was (I still have no idea who he is) until the CTC fiasco and honestly, I can't get enough of the story.
