Definitely the most consistent of the last three, although I might take a couple individual songs on C&K and Kintsugi over most of the tracks on TYFT.

The Georgia EP is now streaming everywhere, and they have a limited vinyl of it up for pre order.

Watching this and having the weirdest feelings of like quasi nostalgia and also that as bad as the last year has been it hasn't actually been so bad? Hard to believe March 2020 was a year ago, really have nothing else to say.

    just one of those ghosts

That was a great stream, some of his best songs in that one. "Lack of color" in particular has a special place in my heart. Those livestreams from a year ago were a real bright spot in a hard time and this one definitely made me feel those feels again.

I think the album is pretty much done. I could've sworn I read an interview with Ben recently where he was like "I hate musicians who compare their work, but this new album really feels like old school death cab." I'm paraphrasing.

He mentioned that in one of the Fender interviews he did for his new signature Mustang. He said he’d been writing the new stuff on one and it felt like the old stuff.

the issue i’ve had with the new stuff isn’t so much the sound of the music as it is his voice. around codes and keys he completely changed the way he sings. if he goes back to the older style of singing, or even the narrow stairs era, i’m extremely excited.

no love for the blue EP? That sounds very Narrow Stairs-ish to me.

The change in vocal styling never really bothered me TBH. I don’t find it that noticeable despite hearing the complaint for years.

Its definitely an issue for me too although I've kinda gotten used to it at this point. It just isn't as clean and pleasant as it used to be, also the songwriting isn't quite on the same level. There's been a few really great songs on the last couple of albums that show they can still make great music though so I'm still looking forward to whatever they do.

Like I had never heard that "You Remind Me of Home" song he played and I thought it really emphasised his new way of singing on the hooooome parts and then when I heard he first put it out in 2003 I listened to that version and the vocals just work so much better for me.

  21. I feel like his voice got cleaner and more professional, more vibrato, and just kind of changed the tone of the songs they were writing, although it's not like the music really resembled early-mid 2000s Death Cab anyways until parts of Thank You For Today. This album (and the Blue EP) felt like a great bridge between the old and new to me.

I feel like Summer Years and Your Hurricane would blend in perfectly with their pre-2008 material. Musically and vocally.

Yeah those are the two from the last album that stuck with me, would love more like that on the next record. I feel like it's just a more subdued vocal performance that really works for him.

I only listened once but The Blue EP is maybe my least favourite thing they've released. Just was not feeling any of those songs.
