I’m not sure what the justice system in Austria is like, or how fucked it is or isn’t, but I feel a lot better about listening to Freddie after he was acquitted, than I do listening to Nas

It’s about as bad for women in that position as those of other countries are

Can’t really accuse me of that after I brought Nas up again, but I still knew this was coming, even in this thread we can't ever give each other the benefit of the doubt

Sorry if I'm wrong but wasn't Freddie actually proven completely innocent? I remember the woman coming forward and saying she dreamt it or something

If that first things is true then forget everything I said (though I can’t find anything to support that except for that he got off obviously), but I do know that him and his bodyguard were accused of drugging and sexually abusing two women, not one:

US rapper charged with sexual abuse in Austria posts bail

Freddie Gibbs Acquitted of Sexual Assault Charges in Vienna

It appears that they partly got off because the hotel staff said that the women “could walk”.

I’m not saying he did or didn’t do it. People can believe whatever they want and listen to whatever they want, but let’s not act like this isn’t being borderline ignored to an unusual extent by some people that act very differently in very similar situations.

Hence my first two points about me wondering and asking people (without going after anyone here I might add) why they think that is, i.e. why there aren't similar sentiments towards Gibbs as there are to Nas. I made that jump obviously because of the whole Nas vs. Gibbs thing spawned by the Grammy's and because, given the context, it occurred to me that that post about Nas by gonz (Alex) can be equally applied to Gibbs given the recent hype about him. It's not complicated. Yet somehow I am being accused of whatabouthism, as if I had a vested interest in deflecting from criticism against Nas.

That's definitely also a factor for some people, I think. I certainly has happened to me too in other cases. But one of the reasons people forget in this case is precisely because seemingly nobody ever talks about it, even though it was a big thing (as in a lot of things, including arrests and extraditions, happened and it went on for quite a while). Hence my original posts.

Feeling better about listening to Gibbs because he was acquitted doesn't make any sense. First off, we know how hard it is for men to be proven guilty of sexual assault, abuse, harassment, rape, etc. It's a he said, she said and unless there is an overwhelming amount of proof, it's almost impossible to find someone guilty, especially a man of power or stature or celebrity. So, beating that case isn't necessarily something to feel good about.

And secondly, if your defense is that Gibbs was acquitted and Nas wasn't, well...Nas was never even charged with a crime. A police report wasn't even made. So it's not like Nas was guilty in the court of law and Gibbs wasn't so therefore we should feel better about listening to Gibbs.

They both clearly have a questionable past.

See above. I can’t find anything like that (if it happened then after the trial) but also there were two women, not one.

It looks like we talked about it in here when it happened, actually, and there really were no answers then either. Very, very strange how quickly it went away/how it hasn't come up again with his more recent rise. He raps about it on "Crushed Glass"....calling the woman a "groupie bitch". This XXL interview cites the girls' ages as 16 and 17, Jesus Christ:
Freddie Gibbs Finally Tells the Story About His Fight for Freedom - XXL

    EDIT:
It's coming back to me a little. At the very least, it sounds like someone in Freddie's crew had sex with a 16-17 year old.

On a side note, I don’t just want to let the Nate Dogg anniversary slip by. The greatest songs he has been on are some of the greatest songs ever, period, and more often than not Nate Dogg’s performance was the reason.

Music and Me is at least underrated too.

Honestly yeah I remembered him being acquitted, and then people posting about her story changing. I guess I never looked into it more which is definitely fucked. My bad

I'm listening to the new Juan Ep is Dead episode with Cassidy. It's really interesting. I used to love Cassidy, his first two albums were my shit, but I lost sight of him after his third album. He has had a truly interesting career.

Apparently he released a series of three albums in the last 6 months. I will have to look into those.

Also, I think I somehow missed that Prince Markie Dee of The Fat Boys died last month. The Fat Boys were true entertainers and pioneers and their contributions to making Hip Hop a, if not the, dominant force in entertainment and popular culture should not be underestimated.

This morning I discovered this great record from a few years back paying tribute to 90's and early 2000's chopped n' screwed rap. Lord Byron, Pink Siifu, and Liv.e on vocals. I got early ASAP Rocky / Odd Future vibes from this.

Never heard those artists before so afterward I checked out the recent Liv.e album rn and DAMN it's fantastic. Think I'm going to continue exploring some new stuff in this same vein today.
