Ah. It was pretty good this year!

I hear where you’re coming from and agree with the challenges, but to me it’s honestly a surprise that they took so long to shift more of an emphasis towards individual songs vs collected bodies of work. It’s not a coincidence that the show felt younger and more current this year (good riddance Ken Ehrlick), and one of the choices that I felt worked was to emulate the Oscars by prioritizing a “big” award.

In our Song Of The Summer / #1 Hot 100 Hit obsessed culture, I think the name of the award is probably the biggest hurdle. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they make a push to modify the song of the year title to songwriting of the year or best songwriting in the next few iterations.

I think it’s as simple as them knowing the voters tend to pick bigger current hits in the song categories than the album categories and trying to chase ratings.

Plus they think the album is dead

I know this is beating the shit out of a dead horse but it's so obvious that After Hours should have been AOTY and Blinding Lights ROTY, I know the Grammys don't matter but I will forever be annoyed by that petty shit

Blinding Lights, yes completely true. folklore still wins for album though, folklore will forever epitomize 2020 quarantine albums

Call it Single of the Year, make Song of the Year a true songwriting category, and draw a clear distinction between them. Then it makes more sense.

I get that that they think this, but not for nothing is Album of the Year by far the most discussed and relitigated Grammy category on social media.
