They're talking about their approach to Black Mile and the hit that was The Gold

Why does this dude keep comparing them to Tool? Twice in eight minutes.

I think that’s just shorthand for sprawling, melodically complex music. Same with PF.

Damn. That interviewer is really pointing out that the "full-album-fans" are in the minority.

I appreciate Andy pointing out that the band cares deeply about what their fans pay for their material/merch/tickets and how they've "fought" with labels and management over it

I’m stoked how well it’s being received so far.

I expect these things to kind of be the norm for the next few months.

Promo in the age of Covid.

I can't think of a musician that has a better *genuine* relationship with their fans than Andy.

I've personally had two great experiences with Andy, both all-time memories for me.

The first was in 2012 when he did a RAGC show at a small bar in Akron. Following the show, he just hung out on the patio and drank with my friend and I. We bullshitted for a good hour or so. The next night, MO was playing with Weezer at the Bunbury Festival in Cincinnati, which was sold out. I'll never forget when he just looked at me and goes 'Do you wanna go to the show, I can get you in."

*side note, I couldn't because I had other things going on, but turning that down has always haunted me.

The second was when he originally repressed the RAGC trilogy in 2016. There were only 500 or so copies available and he was releasing the sale at a time when I was to be in a work function. Knowing it'd sell out in an instant, I responded to him on Twitter asking if more would be available at a later date/time and he just said 'no worries, I'll set one aside for you." which sure enough he did and then gave me his (and his moms, haha) email address to get in touch with them to complete the order.

I know that second story may sound dumb, but something as little as that gesture is what sets Andy/MO apart from alot of other bands their size. That's stuck with me vividly for six years and will always.

    Just an unreal guy.

I think Kevin Devine has a great genuine relationship with fans and would be the first that comes to mind. Just such a down to earth guy.
I guess that leads to why these guys all get along so well.

Some notes from the IG live

    * TMMOG was written prior to COVID
    * They started mixing the record right when COVID/lockdowns started.
    * Spent a few months mixing it, which is longest they've ever spent mixing an album (ABMTS took 3-4 weeks to mix, which was the longest at that point).
    * Andy said it was a luxury (and a treat) they had so much time to mix.
    * She asked if MO wanted to say anything else about the Million Masks of God and Andy's answer was "I just want to shout out Grouplove. Their new album comes out at midnight" haha
    * She asked if they'll release any other singles before the album comes out and Andy said "You'll have to wait and see"

I cannot possibly stress how much all the dudes care.

I’m glad your stories are all similar to mine.

I’ve been having interactions with everyone, but especially Andy, for half my life at this point. Never once, even when I was a bumbling fifteen year old did he or any of them big time me or make me feel weird.

Literally grew up watching the dudes and obsessing over every lyric - living solely on newly discovered demos, one off songs, album drops, and tours. Now we text. My fifteen year brain would explode.

I think they want Bed Head to get established on its own first. But it’ll happen soon enough.

That interview has me even more excited for the new LP. Love a “full album experience”. Screw the people that don’t have the attention for that anymore. Their loss.

I pray they learned the sequencing lesson from ABMTTS though & don’t wedge another “The Parts” in there for us.
