Nobody ever said "the majority" of their games will lol that's a complete fabrication on your part.

Spencer just said there may be things with "a legacy on different platforms that we'll go do". I don't understand how much more clear he can be that they are going to release certain Bethesda games with large playerbases on other platforms (i.e. Fallout, Elder Scrolls).

    No, fuck off.

I genuinely don’t understand how you can possibly think they spent the money they did to bring the biggest heavy hitters to other platforms after he just made a very clear point that these games will come to platforms where Game Pass exists, but I digress. Nobody is going to change their minds until they see it for themselves, but people still clinging to that sliver of hope are in for a very rude awakening.

I respect your opinion and very much enjoy reading your posts, but this will be my last post on the subject. This debate won’t go anywhere productive, so I’ll just see myself out.

I just want you to tell me why he won't just say it then. That's all. You keep saying "they wouldn't have spent all this money just to put games on other platforms" but you can't just tell me why he won't say it clearly. It would be incredibly easy for him to say "We have pre-existing contractual obligations that must be honored, and we aren't going to cut off support for live games like F76 and ESO, but aside from that all Bethesda games going forward will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem." He's pointedly not doing that. Just tell me why he won't say it if you're right.

They did buy Minecraft (actually whatever the company is called) and did not make that exclusive. Microsoft is a big company with a lot of moving parts and a lot of what you could call factions with somewhat different interests. That’s not to say the won’t make some big Bethesda games exclusives, they probably will, but they also might not in some cases, without us necessarily understanding why. It’s not 100% comparable to Sony or Nintendo buying a developer. Microsoft is playing a different game (pun not intended).

Like I said there would be so much less whining about this if it wasn’t Microsoft

It’s all theoretical for me personally because I’m starting to believe that the Series X and the PS5 don’t really exist, people here are just pretending they got some

Said it would be my last post, but it’s rude to not answer a question, so here goes.

Here’s the full quote from Phil:

"I'm going to try to be as clear as I can because that's what I, I just think it's fair. So obviously I can't sit here and say every Bethesda game is exclusive because we know that's not true. There's contractual obligations that we're going to see through as we always do in every one of these instances. We have games that exist on other platforms and we're going to go support those games on the platforms they’re on. There are communities of players. We love those communities and we’ll continue to invest in them. And even in the future, there might be things that have either contractual things or a legacy on different platforms that we’ll go do.

But if you’re an Xbox customer the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists and that’s our goal. That’s why we’re doing this. That’s the root of this partnership that we’re building and the creative capability we will be able to bring to market for our Xbox customers, it is going to be the best it’s ever been for Xbox after we’re done here."

He didn’t say anything about games that are super popular like Fallout or Elder Scrolls or suggest that in any way. You can read into it what he said in any way you’d like, but literally every Bethesda has a legacy on other platforms.

It would make less than zero sense to acquire a publisher only to not make the things that are most likely to draw subscribers to your platform exclusive to your platform. Anyone can refute this all they want with the “leaving money on the table” argument all they want, but it doesn’t make sense. Game Pass will not grow the way they want it to if Sony/Switch/whatever players know they will be able to play the main draws on the box they already own. Xbox know Game Pass is a cheap barrier of entry on a multitude of different devices.

Furthermore, it would be absolutely ridiculous to make a sweeping blanket statement today for a partnership in its infancy that’s going to last a lifetime. Even Sony wouldn’t come out and say “hey, every single one of these games won’t ever see the light of day on another platform so long as they live” if they acquired a big publisher. It would certainly be reasonable to think that would be the case based on the way they’ve operated in the past, but they wouldn’t make a sweeping statement like that. It would be an incredibly foolish move. They have no idea what the industry is going to look like in 3 years, 5 years. I genuinely don’t get how people don’t understand that.

    Another point of note:

Sincd the very beginning, Parris’ opinion has been that all games not contractually obligated to go elsewhere, MMOs, and all games that don’t already exist on other platforms will be exclusive to Xbox/PC/Cloud via GP.

Okay, I swear that was my last post on the subject.

The “leaving money on the table by not selling x copies on Play Station” thing is definitely not a very good one. The math is way more complicated than that in a post Game Pass world (and a world in which game streaming is increasingly becoming a viable option). This is especially the case for Microsoft, which again really isn’t playing the same game as the others.

For example (one of many possible scenarios), if someone ends up using Windows instead of a Mac because they like the Microsoft ecosystem to which they have been introduced to by their Xbox (or whichever devise will let them use Game Pass), which they bought to play Fallout 5, then that is worth a lot of “lost” potential Fallout 5 sales on PS5.

Even if you leave all that non-gaming stuff out (which you really can’t because it’s Microsoft), from what I have read the math behind GamePass alone makes it a business model that very likely justifies the potential lost sales of PS5 copies of Fallout 5. I don’t remember the details, but the math was very good.

In other news, and this isn’t surprising in the least, but the group today confirmed a Bethesda event with things to show this summer. Fully expect to see a proper Starfield reveal, Wolfenstein 3, and Arkane Austin’s next game. Exciting stuff.

What they probably would be open to do based on past comments is put GamePass on Sony or Nintendo consoles (thereby offering those players a way to play their games without even buying their hardware), which again shows that they’re not even fighting the same war

Completely agree. It seems very clear to me, and has for a while now, that their entire focus going forward is on Game Pass, and that they want the service available on every device they can get their hands on.

Something i’m very interested in hearing about is Xcloud and seeing what their answer is to getting me on Gamepass and playing their games, even without an Xbox or PC.

Is it going to be a chrome cast/fire stick situation? Will there just straight up be an app on my smart tv at some point? In browser on my macbook that I have HDMI hooked up to tv?

The point is that the math is good with just having them on GamePass, but it's even better if you have them on GamePass and then a year later you put them on Playstation for $70. They'd be stupid not to take advantage of that demand from a market that is full of players who want Bethesda games but will never own an Xbox.

Phil Spencer legitimately said the exact opposite of the point this chump is trying to prove. I'm with @Anthony_ on this.

I'm pretty sure every "Xbox exclusive" that's come out in the last year or two has also been available on Windows 10, yeah, albeit in the Windows 10 Store as opposed to something like Steam. Can't imagine that changing going forward. Microsoft just want you in their ecosystem (Xbox or Windows), they seem to care a lot less these days which part of that ecosystem you're in.
