They really couldn’t have handled the on screen explanation of the end of Revolution any better than they did. Don Callis was masterful. I so love this version of Kenny, and omg do I love Mox/Eddie.

This was a lot of fun.

 

NXT was pretty great.

I feel like AEW is having some growing pains right now. Some of these stories are too convoluted or just aren’t good.

This MJF/Inner Circle story has never worked. He wasn’t in it long enough for this turn to be that effective. And they started it too early. Like just a couple of weeks into it they were already showing us it wasn’t working and MJF had plans. And his new group just seems like fodder for the inner circle versus something that would actually have legs after the feud. And even though Sammy was right, he looks kind of dumb just coming straight back when the rest of the group gave up on him.

I don’t care for this Money Matt character. All of a sudden he has Butcher and Blade now but they’ve never really had any motivations. They’ve just always been apart of someone else’s group. But this one makes the least sense.

Speaking of them, why are they suddenly not with Eddie Kingston anymore just because he’s a face now? If they don’t agree with his turn at least show us that instead of acting like it wasn’t a thing.

I get that they want to have the whole “fans don’t care about faces vs heels” attitude but honestly a lot of this shows why this doesn’t work. For example, Lance Archer. Was a heel for the longest time but then all of a sudden was backup for Mox. Then he was on a little face run. But now they want to pair him with Sting so now he seems to be going back heel. Then you have whatever is going on with the young bucks. Cody being Cody.

Lastly, the production issues have been pretty rough. And it seems like they don’t put much importance on their standings anymore. They’re gonna be fine. The show is still fun and there’s a lot of good. Just hope it tightens up a little.

 

I still haven’t finished Revolution but the varying quality of Dynamite week to week is something I’ve noticed this year. Late last year they went on a run of 6 or 7 great shows in row but this year I’m finding that they’re struggling to put great shows on back to back. It’s better than it was last year where they went a few weeks just spinning the wheels before doing all the PPV build on one episode. But yeah it seems like it’s on a tick tock system quality wise for the last two months.


Edit: still haven’t watched but got the inner circle thing spoiled on me. The new group sounds good, a heel faction with just unlikable people in it is good. Kinda sucks that sammy’s face turn was wasted though

I actually forgot about MJF and Spears having their gambling gimmick back around when the pandemic era first started.

 

Maybe watching wwe has lowered my expectations but I still think AEW is great 8/10 times. Things to fix, for sure. But largely great.

 

Yeah it’s far from perfect but everything they’re doing at least makes sense on a basic level

 

i dislike the constant no selling, the tweener flood, the refs having no authority whatsoever, that there's an attack after almost every match, etc. - yet Dynamite is still 100% more entertaining to me than any wwe product rn.

 

yeah they need to chill on the amount of run ins and post match beatdowns.

 

I think it's totally fair to criticize/critique something while simultaneously recognizing that it's still a great product. We just all want the best product they can give us. For me, the final segment in last night's Dynamite played out a bit like a segment from Nitro back in the day (not the good era of Nitro). It was way too much of "You thought you could trick me? Well I've tricked you!" "No, no, no! I was one step ahead of you and saw your trick coming, so I tricked you!" A little cheesy, but I think where it got us is ok (for the most part). I like the idea of MJF heading his own faction to rival The Inner Circle, but I don't think Jericho and those guys NEED to be babyfaces, and I hate the idea of Sammy just being rushed right back into the fold of The Inner Circle. There was no pay off to their separation.

Either way, as others have said, this is still probably the most consistent product in wrestling right now so if they don't perfectly execute every little thing, I'm willing to give them a pass here and there.

 

Agree with this. I enjoy it a lot but not everything is a hit and there are some pretty big but fair criticisms that they haven’t been able to shake. I think COVID and running every show out of Daily’s Place hasn’t helped.

 

It would’ve been more received better if it had a fenix match afterwards imo

Idk I really didn’t like Dynamite last night. I did enjoy the opener, but hated Moxley being on the show at all. Kingston giving an explanation is fine, but both Mox and Omega more or less no sold the match they’ve been hyping up as the most dangerous match in wrestling. Am also not a fan of Christian being the next challenger for the AEW title when he hasn’t been in a ring in 7 years and they’ve been working to establish the ranking system. I’m also just not a Scorpio guy so him winning on Sunday was bleh and the heel turn didn’t do much for me. Dynamite is usually good to great most weeks, but I felt this was just one of those awkward rebounds that I just wasn’t captured by
