If I remember correctly didn't the Battlecry studio lead development? They were rebranded Bethesda Game Studios Austin after the fact or just before release, but they were a support studio before that. Maybe I'm wrong

 

No clue, I just remember Todd Howard talking about how BGS developed it personally as a way of selling it as a "true" Fallout game.

Regardless, Todd Howard confirmed that they didn't start full development on Starfield until after Fallout 4

first todd howard game of each series is always the best and deepest. morrowind, fallout 3, and now starfield hopefully. they got a huge team and tons of dev time. it could rule. fingers crossed.

 

Hey I hope it's great, just like I hope any game is great. Never want a game to be bad and I never cheer for a development studio to fail.

absolutely i didnt mean it like that. thatd be super cool if we got another good bethsoft game.

 

also i know its janky and whatever else but i think they could squeeze tons out of their existing engine still

modded Skyrim and Fallout 4 are still some of the very best looking games somehow its ridiculous. all they gotta do is work on their textures esp on their character models - but that really doesnt necessitate deving a new graphics engine

 

Nah they need a new engine. It's been showing its extreme age for years now.

 

ALOT can be done with textures and ambient occlusion - and art direction. the new consoles have ssds now so they can load large textures. the biggest problem with Bethsoft visuals is their design aesthetics - they just have designed some really ugly shit. like I said take a peep at what mods have turned their games into visually since like 2018 - same engine. the problem with the engine is that its janky af.

 

Dated or not, I’ve never looked at a Bethesda game and wished it looked better (I’m not really a graphics snob), and even with all the jank I’ve had a ton of fun playing every game of theirs I’ve dug into.

 

vanilla Oblivion and Skyrim blew me away back in the day with their visuals.

im honestly expecting that Starfield will look next gen.

Not really, but I’d play the Ada campaign last. Originally it only unlocked after playing the other 3, and it kind of feels meant to be played that way.

I definitely know that 6 is not a strong entry in the series, but there are some great moments in it. I could’ve done with just 2 storylines and then Ada’s secret one unlocked after like it originally was.

Spoilers if you haven’t played Leon’s arc yet: The sequence in the third act where you’re in the city when the airborne virus gets released, and there are hundreds of brand new regular zombies closing in on you was easily one of my favorite RE gaming moments.

Hm, yeah maybe I was misremembering development on Fallout 76. That game is one I forget exists on a regular basis. Oh well, we'll see I guess. Eventually haha

I feel like Fallout 4 finally dialed in the gunplay and looked pretty good. I'm fine with that level as long as the quality control is improved. Although, I played like a year after launch and had like 0 issues.

 

I agree. The game got a lot of shit from some, but I had a great time with Fallout 4.

On the subject, I’m hoping we see Fallout 4 GOTY edition join Game Pass this week when a handful of Bethesda games join the service. Mostly hoping for that, Prey, and the Dishonored spin off.

Interesting. So they are going directly with the premise of the first game. I wasn’t sure if they’d try to do something entirely different or not since the first Anderson film used the Mansion setting (sort of.)

 

Still would rather have a proper movie for the original versus a half and half with 2.
