I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

The only thing I find ~weird~ is I keep singing Radioactive during the verses of Hurts So Good lol

Postcard reminds me a bit of 'Shoot' from Boys Like Girls and I am totally here for it

“UFO” is totally a redo of “Coffee and Cigarettes” and I do not care at all because that vibe is needed in my life.

Still has some clunky lyrics, like he always has, but I like this a lot. Feels more personal than the last one.

The uilleann pipes (I assume?) at the end of "Dancing in Heaven" really made that song open the waterworks for me,

I've been making every possible effort to avoid all advance songs for probably 3-4 years now, and my album listening has improved exponentially.

The Petty lifts really leaped right out at me. From the first few lines of "Our Generation" being a direct steal from "Free Fallin'" to the "HEY" from "Don't Come Around Here No More" at the beginning of "One Phone Call"

I'm split on pre-release tracks. Sometimes, getting amped up about really fantastic singles enhances an album experience for me. Like, hearing "Letter to You" and "Ghosts" from the new Springsteen album and knowing he was going for THAT sound again got me so excited in a way that I think ultimately ended up making that whole release cycle even more satisfying for me. On the other hand, I think the weird rollout strategy for this, or for something like the John Mayer album from a few years ago, really has the effect of making the album feel less like a cohesive whole.

For me, it never really enhances the actual record. Either I love it, and it dwarfs the other songs and it feels like a letdown because I'd already heard the best song, or I don't like it and it dampens my enthusiasm or causes me to come into the record with subdued expectations.

I'd much rather, say, an album teaser like they used to do. Let me know the vibe of the new record with a snippet or two.

I think my goal going forward might be to strike kind of a happy medium. Like, thinking back to when I first started getting into music, I'd only ever hear 1-2 songs before an album came out. I didn't hear half of American Idiot before I heard the whole album, but I did hear a few songs that got me really psyched for it. I feel like when you start getting into the 4-5 pre-release tracks thing, it really starts hurting the magic of the album experience.

Yeah it's all about preserving that balance that keeps the magic for you. It takes work to be a music fan this long and not start to get a little jaded or blase, so whatever you can do.

If you're into Martin's producing work, looks like he helped produce this Lady A track

Our Generation is such a super fun song. Super over saturated pop and the bass at the end of the song is *mwah*

i feel like not only is "UFO" a spiritual successor to "Coffee and Cigarettes" but half the songs are sequels/twins to something on the debut. "Companion" gives off similar vibes to "Once in a Lifetime", same for "Our Generation" to "Bad Girls Don't Cry" and "Beautiful Stranger" to "Die a Little", for instance.

i'm liking this quite a bit but i just know it'll be an inconsistent listen much like the previous record, with very high highs and a few songs i just skip altogether.

Been thinking lately that I would love to hear the Night Game version of this song Martin wrote with Avril Lavigne a few years back:

Anyone deduce what the intro to this album is all about?

Nope, I've accepted it is just a hodge-podge of words that is nothing more than a voice-bot saying a whole lot about nothing.

All I got from it was that he was entertaining people on a label for the machine and that all he wanted was to be free of it. Or something.

Just thought earlier that this actually came out this year. I loved the first The Night Game album but I haven't gone back to this one at all (not sure if it's because I haven't done a lot of travelling this year).

I still listen to this fairly often. I think the front half bangs a little harder for me, but as a whole the album is quite good.

The cheese factor is high enough that I imagine some folks can't handle it haha

Still like it a decent amount. Long roll out though so I think that decreased return value simply because I had overplayed half the record leading up to release.

Yup, I listened to the majority of this end of last year.
