Lots of great new music out today, so may need to skip today’s “assigned” album and catch up over the weekend.

Mandy Moore's cover of that is Top 50 all-time for me.

@Matt Chylak I haven't heard that particular Waterboys album, but Fisherman Blues is really great.

Yeah, that's the one I knew. Apparently they made Fisherman Blues, which has more Celtic folk influences and less soaring instrumentation, after This Is The Sea because they considered the latter as far as they could take this type of sound. I actually like This Is The Sea a lot more... feels more Springsteen and less Pogues.

listening to The Who - Quadrophenia today. Consistently good but also quite long. Not a TON that immediately jumps out as amazing, but it's never bad.

This is the last of the albums I had queued up for 1973, if this thread continues in any way after this month, I'll be into 1972 albums!

Belle and Sebastian is good. The vocals remind me of Nick Drake, some solid melodies throughout. The second song reminded me of Peanuts music.

“Love Reign O’er Me” is one of my favorite songs in all of classic rock. Really love “5:15” as well

5:15 was a good one for sure, I have 3 songs left so I haven't gotten to Love yet, but it's soooooon

Finding time away from today’s releases to listen to Reign in Blood by Slayer.

Quick, heavy and full of riffs and solos, with very “edgy” and gruesome lyrics that feel slightly silly in their ridiculousness, especially when it’s full of duelling guitar solos that takes the edge off when singing about serial killers and satan and stuff ha.

Pace basically never drops throughout the album, which does possibly make it feel a little bit one note, it is kind of the same song 10 times ,but it’s such a short album that that never starts to become a problem like it would be on a 50 minute record.

Vocals are the only thing I wasn’t feeling, but of the “classic” 80s metal albums I’ve heard, which admittedly isn’t a lot, this is my favourite.

i agree with the first place. i personally don’t find much to write home about with megadeth and araya’s voice rules but i’m not the #1 slayer fan haha. dislike megadeth more than i like slayer.

anthrax was the one that got me mad online

It took me a long time to tolerate Dave Mustaine’s voice. What makes Megadeth a cut above for me is that their thrash stuff absolutely rips, but they actually did the pop pivot really well. “Train of Consequences”, “Symphony of Destruction”, “Breadline”, “Almost Honest” and ESPECIALLY “Trust” do that mainstream pivot Metallica did so well.

Can he squeeze out 4 albums on the final day? Will he make it? (Almost certainly not)
