Caught Minari this weekend. As an A24 fanboy, i was pre-destined to enjoy it but i think it's objectively fantastic too. The pace is calming, there's a lot of beautiful shots of nature, and the family is really heartwarming in a non-perfect kind of way.

I take it back - it took 7-8 episodes but sense is getting better. Presumably jussssssst in time for the premature cancellation.

I haven't seen or heard all that much about I Care a Lot but the Breakfast All Day review has me intrigued

Again - it was just whatever. Premise was cool but it never comes together (at least for me).

the acting of the two leads was good but it was kind of a mess otherwise, from a story and direction standpoint

I honestly feel like it’s been ages since I’ve watched a truly great film

my guess is you'll see less and less truly great films and more and more great TV shows with how things are trending

I think that is precisely it. I also find that if there is a film I even remotely enjoy I think to myself “man, I wish I could see these characters in a ten episode arc” lol

I Care a Lot had a bunch of unreached potential. It was definitely watchable with an interesting premise but the last act in particular was pretty messy.

I think too many shows outlive their stay. Most ten episodes shows feel like they could be 6.

Which is hilarious that shows regularly used to get dragged out to 23 episodes a season.

I think 8 is usually perfect, 3 season arc. Boom!

I honestly wish all of my favorite comics were series and not films. The new Batman, X-men, etc.

More often then not I watch a TV show nowadays and think “man I wish this was just a movie”.

Also there have been several “truly great” films the past few years. Y’all crazy

Plenty of great films out nowadays. And shit ones. Same with tv. Nothing has changed except more is immediately available. Quality has not shifted but rather public access (maybe quantity) of trash has increased. The shit stuff is easy to stumble upon but there is A LOT of great art being made.

Y’know, if you wanna follow the adventures of comics characters like Batman & the X-Men in an ongoing format, there are these things called comic books you follow. There hasn’t been a better time to read X-Men in the past, like, 15 yrs or so than right now.

There are plenty of great movies they’re just generally outside of mainstream Hollywood, which used to be better at them

feel like I need to put this out there because some people seem to be misconstruing my point but I never said there weren't great films still being made. of course there are still great films being made. there are just a lot less of them than there used to be and I don't see that ending any time soon. and yes, most of the great ones will be outside of the typical Hollywood system. I just see us as living in a golden age of television. nothing would make me happier than if I was wrong tho and film comes back in a big way

Soul was good. Sound was just okay for me. I’ll watch nomad but again, I’m not overly excited to see it.
