Kenny never really got all that negative when talking about relationships with the opposite sex. Can’t necessarily say the same for relationships with media and record labels.

    Surprise surprise is pretty negative

    But in general, yea

I think "problematic" is probably the word @bobby_runs meant, as opposed to negative. Of course they have negative songs about relationships but the lyrics aren't gross in hindsight like a lot of other bands from that era wrote.

I mean, compare "Surprise, Surprise" or "Up & Go" to what Senses Fail was putting out around the same time lol

  4. Still cannot believe Buddy re-recorded those songs and released them only like a year and half ago with the same lyrics

whoa, I had no idea about this. I don't really follow the band, but I listened to that first EP a lot back in the day. Guess I gotta check out the re-recording of it! Did they only do it for the EP, or anything else?

Yeah, Buddy is on record saying a lot of the lyrics were juvenile haha

  12. Huh, I’m listening to the new One Eight Seven right now and he’s definitely still screaming about stabbing, eating hearts out, and killing lol. Maybe he changed some other stuff and I’m just remembering that one.

listening to the Senses Fail re-record right now and it's not very good haha. Granted I never really loved the band, but this re-record lost a whole lot of spark and personality

I just sampled the re-record, it's really awful.

  18. Agreed. Seemed to be the unpopular opinion in the band thread when it came out, but the re-record was just too polished and cold imo. Totally lost that raw energy

TBH the first EP is the only Senses Fail project I like front to back. I do like what they’ve done more recently though. The re-record took all personality out of the originals.

I liked the re-record but I also like the original recording, warts and all.

Senses Fail is the ultimate “I’m still a fan because I listened to them as an angsty teen” band.

when I think of bands of this era whose lyrics haven’t aged like milk, I tend to think of The Early November. in fact, the older and more anti-capitalist I get, the more TMTMTP resonates with me.

Yeah The Early November is 10000000% another band whose lyrics have aged gracefully. The EP and The Room’s Too Cold absolutely still hold up lyrically.

The band has aged gracefully as well, their later releases absolutely stand up with their earlier. Extremely consistent

First TEN EP is probably their worst release.
