Also, I’m not saying it will happen, but I would seriously not be surprised if Snell has a busted year. When I look back at a lot of the big name pitcher trades over the years, it seems like more often than not, the Rays are good at moving a pitcher when they’ve hit their peak, flipping them at a time when they are not only most valuable, but at a time when they likely won’t replicate past success. So often, our best pitchers from our org have down years when they leave.

((This is also purely anecdotal and me going off of what I remember following what at the time felt like heartbreaking trades, so no one hold me to it))

Doesn’t mean I don’t think we should’ve kept him, but they’ve been right so many times before that it’s too soon to say if they didn’t win that deal.

Of course there is something to say about having your team offloading players like this because you can’t develop the same sort of affinity for them like you would a player that stays with one team for an entire career, despite their productivity being less or slightly less than their peak years
