I worry that a lot of people in my daily life enjoyed Joker but luckily it has never come up.

 

It’s a very vanilla movie. It’s not good, but it’s not bad enough to be interesting either.

 

I finally saw Casino a few months ago. It’s good, but it didn’t stick with me the way his films usually do.

How is his Cape Fear compared to the original?

The Departed is always enjoyable, but part of what I don’t like about it is that it’s nearly a beat-for-beat remake of Infernal Affairs. I don’t know why any director agrees to do a remake but doesn’t try to add anything extra. If the whole Boston cultural side of it was supposed to be that something extra, it was pretty shallow

 

The departed is an enjoyable watch but not nearly on the level of his best. I was obsessed with it when it came out because I was a senior in high school.

Yeah, agree with this--although I discovered that movie a few years after it came out because I'm younger (but also late high school). Still enjoy it when I come back to it, but there's clearly at least 7-8 better films that he's made

I went with Goodfellas even though I haven't seen all of his films because I'm pretty confident it's probably one of the best American films of all time. Have to say that I've always had this really weird soft spot for The Aviator though, it would flirt with my top 5 if I made a list

 

Man now I have the Layla piano outro stuck in my head and am at severe risk of blowing off a few should-be-productive hours to rewatch Goodfellas for the millionth time haha
