Dashboard Confessional has been for while. Chris said he wanted touring to coincide with album being released. I guess if you’re in the position financially (possibly), you can do that. The. He had that serious accident after during lock down too.

I guess the point is, no one knows if/when it will ever be save to tour again. Sure the current hope is by this fall, but there are wayyy too many unknowns, especially with recent news of poor vaccine roll-outs. What are bands supposed to do? Hold forever like it's $gme?

I definitely understand the desire to wait, but they could be waiting a LONG ass time if things don’t get a lot better very quickly

I feel like Manchester could release something before releasing an album, like a Let My Pride Be EP before METN. One track from the album thats not a single, a b side and a little something extra on there, and do it as a wide release. That release didn’t give away the new album but increased the excitement for more new material. And it came out about 6 months before the album so they didn’t have to reveal album secrets.

I have heard rumblings about a 'Vaccine Check' or Negative Covid Test prior to either purchasing tickets or attending shows. I am in NY and although the vaccine rollout has been clumsy it is due to demand outpacing supply....which is a much better alternative to the opposite being true.....I think at the rate we are going at the very least there will be outdoor shows available for mid/late summer

To your point: my state is now saying they hope all adults can be vaccinated by the end of 2021. And I know frontline workers who are still waiting. My state sucks, but it can’t be the only one, and you needs most states for the kind of touring everyone does.

  9. Album out in April, got moved back but they're not necessarily 'sitting on it'

Right, and to both of these points - "most states" won't mean anything, since fans will certainly travel out of their "skipped over" state to the "open/touring states." No way to prevent that. And I can't think of an effective way to ensure negative covid test/vaccine check prior to a ticket purchase. Also, a negative covid test prior to ticket purchase would mean nothing (since the purchaser could contract the virus inbetween purchase and event). At the very least, there will be temperature checks at the door...but still, what about fans who are asymptomatic? It's going to be a hot mess.

Definitely will be a mess....I don't think there is an easy way nor any way in the Post Covid world for 100% safeguards...but I think there are protocols that can and will be put in place to relieve some fears and if shows are scheduled people will go

Do people really think Manchester Orchestra fans (or fans of any band on the planet) - who haven't been to any type of concert in more than a year - are just going to go to a shows once it's safe to do so again *only* if they're touring on new material???

Aren't there reports that even those who are vaccinated may still be able to spread the virus? Hence still having to wear masks, social distance, etc.

The Negative Covid test check would also be a disaster. I could test negative at 2 p.m. today (which these tests aren't even close to accurate) and contract COVID 20 minutes later. Or Worse, actually have COVID but test negative because the viral load isn't strong enough yet. Also, what happens if someone blows $80 on a concert ticket then tests positive on the day of? Or isn't let in because their temperature is 99.1 but they feel fine? Do they get a refund? Who is paying for all these tickets lost? Will there be lawsuits from people who feel fine yet aren't allowed in? It is sure to be a shit show.

The vaccine rollout couldn't be anymore of a disaster. Sure, right now, the demand is higher than the supply, because the supply is literally miniscule. Like, my county is getting 100 doses per week (280,000 population) and are so backlogged on the 80-year-olds who registered more than a month ago. Once/IF the vaccine is widely available, this country still has a LARGELY SIGNIFICANT population who a) refuse to acknowledge COVID-19 is a serious virus (the 'iT's jUsT tHe fLu' people) and b) don't trust the vaccine or don't think it's worth it because 'CoViD hAs a NiNeTy NiNe pErCenT sUrViVaL rAtE!!!'

I honestly don't see an end to this for a very, very, very long time.

I can't argue it is going to be a difficult task. And I do not have answers to how it will work. However, every week the vaccine has been out, the percent of the population that indicated confidence in it has grown.

Yes there are many many many dumb and uninformed people in this country who believe in social media over science. The optimist in me believes they are just the loudest and not the majority.

The vaccine doesn't stop you from getting Covid. You can still get it and spread it, you just won't have the major symptoms or problems.

The band WILL NOT release this record without a proper avenue to tour it. I can safely and confidently say that, and if I'm wrong I'll eat my shoe - no sauce.

I think they're prepared to sit tight and keep the Patreon going and try to keep busy producing/playing/writing for others and the band in addition to pressing/releasing archival stuff until they can do things safely. Everyone has a family now, they aren't trying to risk anyone or anything.

It will be interesting to see when the band deems it safe to release. I mean, I'm not sure it's ever going to be like it used to be pre-2020. Release it when it's safe to tour a handful of cities? Will they tour early enough before the country shuts down (again)? Will they release it if they're able to only tour outside the US?

I just don't think holding until a "tour" is the proper solution. The industry is going to adapt just like many others.

    I'd love to be wrong.

I mean I feel very confident that widespread touring will come back, but whether that’s late this year or at some point next year or even later than that is a huge what if.

RE: going to shows post-covid, I think I’ll definitely be wearing a mask even after any type of requirement is lifted. Sadly, I think that’ll be a lasting effect of all of this for awhile. I mean I love hanging & yelling & singing with y’all, but we’re also all so gross & germy, haha

I just don’t get this...for MO or any artist. I assure you, once it’s safe to do so, people will be ecstatic to go to shows. Regardless if a band has a new album or not. Like, people have been sitting in their homes for 12 months (and it’ll be much longer)...you think concert goers are gonna pass on tours if bands aren’t supporting a new album?

Also...like, bands can still play music released during Covid at post-Covid shows. What difference does it make now?

Some real good points. Bands often talk about how there is more profit related to touring than releasing albums. It’ll be interesting seeing what happens with shows. Some of these bands who’ve put on high production value live stream shows...will future audiences go up or down? Guessing up because people have liked them but maybe people skip because they saw the bands “live” recently in a stream.

No matter what happens, it is nice they have a say in when their album gets released.

It’s still say releasing a small EP might be a happy medium. It’s not like these guys haven’t been very active though.
