I hope that there will at least be a minor change in work culture here in Germany that when you are sick, even if only midly, you actually will stay at home.

Hey guys just got back from my trip to Disney World to celebrate my financial stability, full health insurance, retirement set up, job security and anything else I need to survive without any of the checks (past or future the govt will give us), what's going on anything new?

I would love for grocery stores moving forward to require gloves and a mask to shop. Now we collectively have a heightened awareness of germs, let's get that the norm so people stop picking up every piece of fruit or vegetables with their bare hands.

Even if that’s true as long as kids can be carriers it seems like a bad idea. Especially right now with so little amount of the population vaccinated we should prevent more carriers as much as possible. Also and maybe you know this but I wonder if the vaccine is less effective if you’re constantly exposed to a carrier like you would be if you’re a parent or caregiver of a child who has the virus.

A couple things I will say based on everything being discussed:

I don't think that things will ever go back to "normal" and that is for the better. Look at how low flu levels have been this season, for various reasons but partly due to protocols. I would not mind post-covid if mask-wearing and social distancing at stores and such is still required at least during flu season. Covid will at least have made society more health-conscious. Let's also stop making people go to work and school when sick because "it's just a cold".

Some people here give me the vibe that anyone who doesn't lock themselves in their house and not see any family or friends for the past year is a bad person. If that is how you want to go about this, that is fine and great for you, but that doesn't mean people who don't do that are bad and aren't being safe. We should be able to see our friends, some family members, etc. as long as you aren't reckless about it and know the risk you are taking.

In terms of planning a trip to Disney and flaunting about it in a political forum where people post about their struggles all the time, that ain't it.

Yeah I do wonder what the science on that is. Logically it seems like if you're constantly exposed to a carrier then the viral load you pick up from them could be higher and possibly overwhelm the immune response? But maybe that's just not how it works haha, I really don't know enough. But there is def a sizable amount of parents around here who are both 1. Keepign their kids virtual for safety reasons but 2. seem to be more open to it if they and the childs grandparents and etc are vaccinated.

We're in our first week of hybrid right now and it's awful. I am lucky so far in having extremely small classes, with kids who chose hybrid staying home anyway making them even smaller. But this sucks so much. We're so close to getting vaccinated and this model isn't going to be any better for our students achievement, it just makes no sense.

We also just had a special ed kid at another school in the district die from covid. He had a genetic disoder so obviously a bit less healthy than your usual kid his age but it's still awful news to hear.

I think unvaccinated people seeing other unvaccinated people is largely unsafe and wrong (and I'm not innocent of this, either, I've let my standards lapse during this pandemic more than once). I do think it's reckless and risky to gather with people from multiple households. Just my $0.02, though.

I'm pretty sure that it's been reported how even if you're fully vaccinated you can still carry and spread the virus to those around you despite not getting sick yourself. So the whole "Fuck you I got mine" mentality is just staggeringly idiotic and selfish and anyone traveling to goddamn Disney World, even if vaccinated, will be putting the lives of everyone around them in danger.

Also aren't they still not vaccinating kids? So...........

I do wonder about going back to “normal” life. Like I never before wore a mask when going to the doctors, urgent care, hospital. Now I do... and why would I ever stop? Little things like that are def gonna change for the better.

I don't see social distancing at stores becoming a "normal" thing after all of this, simply because the limited capacities hinders sales. But I think wearing a mask will be normalized. Not everyone will do it, but I'd imagine there's a chance you see like, 25% of people doing it in places like the grocery store.

That being said, I do see outdoor dining for restaurants/bars not going away anytime soon. And I kind of hope they keep the distancing the way it is. The 3-4 times I went out for food this summer it was really nice to sit outside and not have to feel like the party next to me could hear what my partner and I were talking about or having the server hovering directly over you when talking, etc.
