Good guy, but a bad dude

I was able to get one in the first preorder batch. Pretty neat but there’s no point in getting one really, very few games for it so far

Chapelle tested positive for Covid. Kind of ironic after someone posted that stupid fucking picture of him with Rogan and Musk.

I don’t disagree with this sentiment, and have realized with some time passed and some reflection that I probably could have expressed my thoughts better. I don’t think that it’s reasonable to expect people to not talk at all about what they spent their money on/how they’re going to spend it or whatever... however when you’re framing it like “where’s my $2k/money?!” and then follow it up with “I need a new camera/to pay off this vacation/a PS5” when none of those things even come close to “needs”, yeah it’s gonna get some people incensed and make you look like an ass. this isn’t the first time I have seen this happen in here, nor is this the only place I have seen people do such things, but yesterday in particular it got to me.

that said, I do also think there are better places in general to talk about what material goods you’re spending said money on than in a political forum where people are routinely sharing stories and data about the severity of this virus and how it’s devastated this country (and in some cases) them or their family/friends personally. it just comes off as tactless to me, I guess.

They haven’t even started clinical trials on kids yet. They just announced they would start soon, though according to the Bloomberg News

Correx: looks like they started in December, actually. But are still ramping up and looking for volunteers. First results are expected in June.

It's cool that the government keeps ignoring that the new strain appears to impact kids a lot more and is hellbent on sending them back to school

It's hard to tell people to not do something they're legally allowed to do. Disney world should probably not be open but that's more a failure of government. People are gonna take advantage of anything they're allowed to do.

I do think, even after the pandemic, I will never go back to a) grocery shopping without a mask and b) going on public transportation without a mask.

Edit: Even if there might be no medical necessity anymore, I have been dealing with, sometimes really self-destructive, anxiety of germs, etc. my whole life and wearing a mask, as stupid as it sounds, makes it easier for me to go to a supermarket. I just hope that after the pandemic you won't be looked at weirdly for wearing a mask while shopping

The general sense i get from people/parents is that most of them aren't too worried about their kids getting it because it does seem to generally be very mild in children, and many of them are totally asympotmatic. I don't really agree with that line of thinking but I know even the parents who have expressed concern about us opening back up have said they'll feel much better about it once they themselves are vaccinated, not so much their kids.

That being said, outside of having to send my kid to daycare because we're both being forced back into work now, I won't be letting him near unvaccinated people as much as humanly possible, at least not until case numbers are low. There's already some tension about doing this trip with her inlaws to shenandoah in the summer because her mom may not be vaccinated yet (and neither will her sisters kids of course)...so i'm a bit iffy on that at the moment.

It’s not hard to tell people they’re being shitheads when they brag about things like going to amusement parks, seeing their family, etc. when many of us haven’t seen our friends, family, in person, have watched people die from COVID and have changed our way of life in order to avoid contracting a deadly virus.

It’s a failure of government for sure. And it’s a failure of judgment if someone thinks we should be happy or celebrate that they get to go see Mickey during a pandemic.

At minimum I'll be doing this when sick now. No need for me to spread my sick to other people if I have to run out the store or whatever.

I haven't been impacted personally too much, I just work from home and don't see my friends. I haven't been able to see my family at all, especially since my dad is recently recovering from cancer and at a very high risk. But I've made peace with that. I feel like there's a very overwhelming sadness throughout this isolation where I'm aware of so much suffering, and so much inaction to help people at such a large unprecedented scale. There's a helplessness involved there, but also guilt at my relative stability. I'm trying to be safe but every little thing might have an unseen impact, and I don't know how to help people with the money I do have because it never feels like enough.

Basically this pandemic sucks shit, its been a bad year and most of the time I spend trying to block it out so I don't have panic attacks every day. And it highlights large systematic rot that is going to continue to go unaddressed as we fight tooth and nail for scraps of relief. I'm buying a shitload of pizza tonight and two friends are coming over for my girlfriend's birthday, and there's a guilt I feel for doing a very small normal feeling thing that I know will still feel weird. I can't imagine traveling the country with my middle finger up and not caring about all the pain that we're surrounded by constantly.

Sometimes I feel like having empathy is a curse, but not having empathy seems like the most soulless existence possible so I'd rather feel fucked up than feel nothing during this.
