You were just exposed to the wrong R&B in the mid 00s

I doubt anything will beat RZA/Premier or DMX/Snoop for me

    hey you lil piss baby

Speaking of Keyshia Cole, I went down a hole of annual Billboard Hot 100 videos from the 00s and she showed up so much, as both lead and featured artist. It’s actually kinda wild to go back to those charts from the early-mid 00s and see how populated they were by R&B. Especially compared to now where the R&B artists who break through are pretty few and far between (inflated even more when held up against rappers).

(Mostly white) pop artists started selling whitewashed (pun not intended) versions of it and people fell for it. The weird EDM flirtations R&B went through in the later 00s didn’t help either. Neither does the shamefully inadequate coverage of the genre by the music press. It’s a shame really. In many ways we have gone backwards in the last 10 to 15 years, no matter how big rappers are on Spotify.

He also pardoned Harry-O, Death Row’s co-founder. I wonder how that came together.

    EDIT: Apparently Snoop was involved.

Most of his songs that get huge are his more generic stuff (although I still maintain that Sicko Mode is a WEIRD ass song for how big it got), but his projects Rodeo and Days Before Rodeo have a lot of really unique and forward-thinking takes on trap music, at least for the time they came out. Might not sound as different now that a lot of people have started doing it

Really enjoying the new KEY! album. Xylophone is a banger.

I'm really not a fan of the modern trappy/autotune/singy sound so never got into Travis Scott but I LOVE the "middle part" of Sicko Mode especially. The weirdness of the whole song is really cool haha.
