Dems: $600 is not enough, it needs to be $2k

also Dems: listen we can’t do full $2000 checks now because that would give you $2600 total and that extra $600 is a lot.

Thanks all, I appreciate it! Makes a lot more sense now. The extent of my tax knowledge is signing into Turbotax once a year and doing what it tells me to do lol

I’m curious as to what some of the GOP like Hawley that supported $2000 checks will say about this

$2600? why not $3000? Heck, why not send a million bucks to every American!?

I mean its marketing. so in a way, it is deliberately misleading. because its certainly designed to take advantage of the good will towards the $2,000 checks. I just don't think the goal was to make people think they'd get $2,600 total

Spent four years watching the GOP doing everything they wanted or changing the rules to do what they wanted and now we’re gonna get told we can’t do anything because Manchin might not like it. COOL

If everyone in here gets to say that anyone confused about how a two thousand dollar check is actually only equal to fourteen hundred dollars is being disingenuous, then I feel like I should be allowed to say that people are being disingenuous in pretending that the Dems didn't really ride hard on language that inferred they would be sending people $2000 checks when they flipped those two Georgia seats.

I suppose this could certainly lead to some confusion

I haven’t seen anything from him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Warnock came out in favor of a straight $2k check. This is, after all, just Biden’s proposal. A few Dems have come out in favor of a more generous straight 2k check since the announcement.

It really seems like some of the folks in this thread literally can't remember three weeks ago. The bill wasn't passed, Trump was holding it up for random reasons, and everyone on the Democratic side was talking about increasing the $600 payments to $2000.

I am not disputing that more money would be good, but this argument is exhausting. There are a ton of things in that plan that are helpful, including an additional $400 in UE benefits per week extended to September and the $15 minimum wage. That's a ton of extra money directly in folks' pockets. It's a good bill.

I want you to guess how many times either Kamala Harris or Joe Biden have tweeted the words "total of" re: checks, before this one. Go ahead. Just guess

If you’d told me a decade+ ago that the indie songwriter dude who some hip people on AbsolutePunk had as their avatar would be on Tucker Carlson defending President Trump...

I’d say, “wait, Tucker, the bow tie guy whose career Jon Stewart ended, and Trump is president!?”

But, after having that explained to me, the Ariel Pink thing would also be surprising.
