Gotcha, I only know of the band because of a few emo thread posts so idk the relationship/backstory between any of them. Just saw it and figured I'd say something when I saw the thread bumped

 

I will say that I have cancelled my pre-order of the album in the meantime.

 

If this comes off as insensitive/out of line lmk but it sure seems to me like a lot of bands in this scene/genre specifically like calling out each other and making a big public deal over personal stuff that really should be handled privately. Not trying to defend this band in particular, they're not really my thing, but I read the thing that was posted/deleted earlier and couldn't even really make sense of what the situation was, nor do I think anybody would able to unless they were personally involved

 

It's confusing but they definitely did try to discuss it in private before taking it public. Whether they were right to do so isn't my call to make.

 

You don't have to say what it was, but was there a specific thing that made you do that or just a general feeling about the situation?

 

A general feeling - I just wanted to personally err on the side of caution as things stand right now as I feel currently unable to support this band. This may change but we'll see if anything else comes of this.

 

I trust you enough to hold off on listening until/if more comes out. If anyone sees any more clarification on the matter, post it in here please. Still not even sure what happened, haha.

Should say that I stumbled across a related (I think, based off of who liked it) group of tweets about the overuse of "abuse" on Twitter. That's such a complex topic to discuss. Unrelated to this, but I've definitely seen the term being thrown around or used in inappropriate ways on twitter. With that being said, the tweet gaining the most traction is a weird blanket statement about teenagers using the word, and I think it comes off as dismissive and pretty harmful.

 

I feel like this happens constantly. being on tumblr I've seen people using "triggered" to mean "mildly upset", "disassociate" to mean "zoned out", "gaslighting" to mean "lying", everything gets watered down. though I agree singling out a particular age group isn't helpful, I think it's an everyone problem not just teens.

 

Just finished reading both statements. I would agree with the above that there were probably communication issues with both parties. I don’t have much more to say at the moment, but I don’t think it’s clear cut based on the statements that one is clearly less at fault. If any of you have a better understanding/reaction, please do respond, as I’m truly not sure how to proceed after these statements.

Yeah no qualms with calling it out when appropriate, just the idea that singling out teenagers seems counterproductive and could lead to people second guessing whether or not they were actually abused for fear of being called out

 

Just saw the tweet and this is...not it. Generalized statements like this do more harm than good.
