I've heard the Direction b-side Pictures before, but does anyone know where I can find Time To Run?

I don’t think I’ve heard “Time To Run”

It’s a good one. If I had to pick between the two b-sides, I think Pictures woulda been more fitting on the record

 

"Time to Run" is great, but it would probably feel a little jarring on the album (where as "Pictures" sounds like the rest of the record). Then again, it opens with the song "Direction" so who knows.

 

So can we get a little drive going of all these b-sides/demos to share? Should be cool since they're not available to purchase, right?

 

I feel like that probably already exists somewhere, we've done it a couple of times throughout the years. They have tons of b-sides and demos, but I think "Pictures" might be only one you can actually purchase.

 

Wow, this is great! It sounds like Directon era TSL writing a song for BOATS.

 

I've always loved Direction, but that live stream really gave me a new found love for it. I think 6 months ago I would've said that Way With Words was my least favorite song on there. Now I think I'd rank that as one of my all time favorite TSL songs.

Lets see if next week's stream makes me finally change my mind about The World.

 

Anyone else remember when Kenny inexplicably was like “we’ll see you in 2011” at their last show, but then in like 2009 the Time To Run preview showed up on Amazon with no context and a release of date of 2039 lol

 

I remember borrowing a friends bass back in the day just so I could play and sing a long to Way With Words, I Could Be Wrong, and What You Want.

I would also throw Artistic License in there sometimes.

 

I hope they play the Tim O'Heir version haha

 

That’s really cool. Way With Words has always been a top tier Direction cut for me, but I’m right there with you on The World. It may be my least favorite TSL track tbh

 

Until I heard Howard Benson talk on the live stream I had no idea he produced The World (and Bedroom Talk). I see the Tim O'Heir's version is on youtube, I'll have to give it a listen later. All I know is that album version is definitely my least favorite TSL by a long shot haha

Woah woah - what’s with the hate for “The World”?? I dig the song a lot and there are farrrrrr worse TSL songs.

With that said; I do like the Tim O’Heir version, even if it’s a half baked demo, but it doesn’t gel as well with the record as a whole (in comparison to the studio version). Plus those gang vocals literally make the song.

 

Yeah I was not aware The World was disliked by so many

 

I mean, there were only two of us! Haha. Even Zac only said he likes the alt version more. I think not liking it is probably the unpopular opinion

 

It's one of my least favorites on BOATS I think, but I love that whole record so that's not saying much.

I've been going through their back catalog recently, and I completely forgot that the album version of "Saddest Girl Story" is sped up just a hair. It's not noticeable, but it was incredibly frustrating back in the day when I had just started playing guitar and was trying to learn the song... It never quite sounded right. haha.
