I like the little melody underneath the speaking interludes though; sounds like something that could fit on the Stranger Things soundtrack.

I kinda like the interludes. They're thematically tangent to the album and aren't long or annoying enough to put me off

 

Seems pretty clear that Frank's always going to use interludes and found sounds in his music. It doesn't bother me as much as more traditional rap skits because his oblique lyrics feel more like tone poems. There's a narrative quality to them that renders the end product more 'complete', if that makes sense.

Love all of the album at this point, with the possible exception of the "Pretty Sweet" -> "Facebook Story" -> "Close To You" run in the third quarter. Maybe I'll come around on it.

Am almost exclusively just like this, but there are a couple albums a year that I just can't wait on

 

kanye and beyonce were my only exceptions this year. beyonce because i'm pretty sure that shit is never coming to spotify haha. but as long as the two week exclusive things holds true here, i'm fine with waiting.

I really enjoyed this on the first listen. Self Control was definitely my favorite. Gonna give it another go tonight.

I don't know if that's really a fair comparison. His perspective is clearly coming from a fan of Frank's work a few days removed from the album's release, where it was a different album than anyone could have ever expected and the lack of beats and hooks is a bit jarring. Whereas Springsteen has such a wide swath of music that can be visited and all of those albums have been able to be digested for decades. I totally get the criticism.

All that said, "Facebook Story" guy can eat it. I could get if his girlfriend was trying to get him to get a Facebook and he said no. But if it's just her trying to get him to accept her Facebook request, he's just being a pretension dolt.

 

Are we even supposed to empathize with that guy?
