Even if it was Biden and Harris, who cares? Who the hell wants Pence on their side anyway?

 

Yeah this is pretty much my actual plan. I can't take the whole class to do it, and the lower level kids won't be as attentive anyway, but, just talknig about it and letting anyone say something if they feel like it and express their thoughts/fears/etc.

Had to have a few of those moments throughout this presidency actually. The first one was the day after the 2016 election, I was a spec ed teacher at the time so I was the co-teacher in the class, it was a school that was only 15% white....the 9th grade classes didn't care much but hte 11th grade US history class ended up being about 40 minutes of discussion, and mostly fear, especially from the latino students. It was heartbreaking hearing the fear that some of them rightly had. It was also a moment of pride to hear how informed some of them were though. One girl expressed the idea of how, it's not so much what he'll be able to accomplish, but rather how his rhetoric will inspire others to think and talk like him the next 4 years and make them think that it's okay to be racist. Something a lot of adults understood obviously but to hear a 16 year old express it with such confidence in front of her peers was...something.

 

So we thought it was Biden, Bernie, and now it's just Pence... I guess the back of all white dude's heads just look alike

Actually, literally, one thing I will defintiely say is how people in other countries believe in the idea of America, even if we haven't lived up to it and even if that idea is misrepresented at best in our own narratives about our history, and that it can be a shock for them to watch something like this happen in our country considering what they want to believe about us and our ability to be a functioning democracy.

But thanks I'll take it under advisement!
