Southampton are probably the best team in the world, and they proved it today. also ever since I compared TAA to my crush (she plays football in a similar position, she's an LFC fan) he's played horribly.

Just watched the highlights, Livin' la Vida Locapool had a couple penalty shouts that could've gone either way but certainly not good enough for them. But at least they're not Arsenal.

Any tips for this game? My brother gave me a log in to Steam so I can play the FM touch. I know Touch is slightly reduced (to me it seems quite vast but I haven’t played for about 12-15 years...!)

Struggling to know how to format the tactics / formations etc.

haha no it depends, if you’re doing a lower league (or even bottom of premier league) save keep everything as simple as possible. You’re not going to have the players to use the more unique roles (Mezzala, Carrilero etc). 4-4-2 is surprisingly effective, but you’re going to want a couple of formations. Like a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 when going up against teams that load midfield. When I’m doing a formation I generally choose one of the presets and look at what my assistant manager recommends for the formation and will go with that formation for a bit until I get to know how the players perform, then tweak it to how my players are performing or my opposition. I have Grealish as an Advanced Playmaker in the CAM position but if my opponents struggle with players coming late into the box or balls from further back, I’ll move him back into centre midfield and give him the Mezzala role, which is a floating half winger that will break forward a lot.

Pay more attention to the players actual stats when deciding what role a player should have in their position than the star ratings for them.

With regards to tactics, some will be counter intuitive to how you think they’ll work. Like you could have an inside forward set to attack, but if you have overlap on in your tactics the inside forward won’t drive towards to goal but it will nearly always hold the ball up in midfield and wait for the overlap. But if you turn off overlap and give your full back a wing back role, you’ll get the natural overlaps with the IF driving towards goal. Some things you just need to try out and see what’s happening.

Terrible defending from Brentford on that goal. Like someone pressed the pause button on them for five seconds.

 

The main thing is to try not to overthink things. It’s easy to panic when stuff isn’t going your way and end up tinkering your team into oblivion. That happened me at Schalke in this game before I joined Villa. I tried to change up my tactics over the summer and ended up wasting my small transfer budget on players that just didn’t work with who I already had at the club.

 

Feel bad for Brentford. I mean, Spurs have been the better team but they had some bad breaks. The VAR decision was right but unfortunate. And now a red card in the same manner. Definitely a red but it wasn’t intentional or malicious.
