England going into full lockdown again. All schools closing after being open for just a day, just yesterday Johnson was telling us all how safe schools are. Can't tell you how much I want a new government.

Yeah completely understand that. I think everyone who goes to Costco the first couple times does that. You can definitely get stuck with a giant rancid jar of Mayo real quick if you are not smart when buying for a small group. But even for a couple, they do have some things that make a ton of sense to buy there.

Also, use your Costco membership to rent cars. We got a killer deal on a rental when we traveled last before the pandemic.

I live in New York City so I only go to bodegas. Y’all wouldn’t know about them. They’re like little grocery stores that have food and sandwiches and beer.

Here we call them corner stores, and when people refer to them as bodegas we make them leave the city.

We actually used their car buying service when we bought our minivan a few years ago and it was great. Great price, no haggling.

We also love that they have mixed 24-packs of good beer for a good price. It's not usually the most local stuff, though some local(ish) brands do make their way there every now and again, but it's at least the bigger "craft" brewers (I see you @bigmike) and not 24 of the exact same beer.

Oh shit, for real? I didn't know you could rent cars through costco. I'll keep that in mind for my next travel plans which hopefully won't have to wait until 2023.

The only reason I know what that is is because of the blink-182 song where Mark sings "Thought I saw you at the bodega"

I guess I shop for groceries like a peasant because a lot of these places seem fancier than the chains I shop at haha

Acme is dominant around here so pre-pandemic I mostly went there. My mom worked there for 20+ years so even tho we hate it for screwing her over it’s just the most convenient. But she works at Food Lion now (I think we have the furthest north location of that here?), so sometimes we go there or ShopRite.

Pandemic has changed all that since Acme doesn’t do curbside so my mom gets us a lot of stuff from Food Lion (mostly fresh food) and I do the rest from a combo of Target, ShopRite, and Giant.

Rental Cars - Low Price Finder | Costco Travel

Really awesome service. Goes through four of the big car rental companies and you can compare all four's prices on whatever level of car you are looking for.

I started going to Wegmans this summer when one opened up in Brooklyn. Place is a gold mine. Typically I go to the Foodtown a couple blocks away though. Not the best grocery store, their premade stuff is garbage but it does the trick for the basics

As someone who may be moving to Chicago (maybe... should've been there in September but, well, COVID happened), I will be sure to call them bodegas at every opportunity because that's what they are (although I suppose deli-grocery is acceptable in certain contexts)

yeah there was one for years at the beach in southern Delaware (and near the shore in Stone Harbor NJ I think?), but that was the only place I had ever seen them so kid/teen me just thought it was some grocery chain at beaches lol. But they pushed further north and now there’s a few near by here that are pretty much right on the border with PA. I think I remember reading it was their furthest north store when they first opened it, not sure if that still stands. I think I read they’re trying to break into PA

Looking to buy a house? We're probably leaving Chicago in the next 6 months or so.

Our country’s strategy has basically been “vaccine is coming, so fuck it until then” and now that there’s a vaccine everywhere is totally unprepared. Super cool!

You own a house in Chicago?? I’ve been here for two years and wonder where people are finding reasonably priced houses here.
