As a Marxist I’m a pretty big fan of Jamie’s work (although admittedly I know little of Emma’s). I’d be interested if you could point me in the direction of some podcasters/youtubers/etc who have more genuine left wing credentials?

Only needs the majority of the vote period, not the majority of the House. Like, theoretically, the Speaker could be chosen on a 1-0 vote if only one person voted.

Well it definitely will take a lot longer than we all want/than it should. But the alternative of working outside the party the simply can't work because of the electoral system we have in this country. You can say we just have to try and change the system but there is just no indication to me that we can get out of the 2-party system, it's been in place too long and too much at stake to change it. I could be wrong, but working from within the party and electing progressives at democrats just seems like to most realistic path.

 

Here’s a question: why should leftists care who the fucking speaker of the house is anyway? Pretty rich to disparage others as typical libs when you’re just as obsessed with the Democratic Party as anyone.

I haven’t paid any attention to the speaker vote at all. Was the hope that AOC and the squad would refuse to vote leaving the house speaker less and hopelessly deadlocked until a progressive was chosen?
