Everyone who says “nothing changes 1/20” are fucking high. The fact that this guy will not have the nuclear codes alone is enough that I’ll get my best night of sleep in years.

I would say probably only Arizona. MI, WI, and PA all have Democrat governors.

Wasn’t Jimmy Dore a Medicare-for-All-Who-Want-It guy, like, 10 months ago? Grifters are gonna grift.

Good-faith question: Who is saying that the squad are “the real problem”? That feels strawman-y. There are idiots like Dore saying they’re sellouts or libs or whatever, but what percentage of people do we honestly think that is?

I’m worried that a legitimate, important debate is going to get sidestepped because Dore is going to be positioned as being of outsized importance to it. I get why the Squad didn’t stop Pelosi today. But I do think it’s bad that there wasn’t a serious movement to go up against her formed over the past two years while it’s been made clear she and the other Dem leaders will stymie them every chance they get, and I don’t think it bodes well for the left’s prospects in the future in electoral politics. I’m more interested in that conversation than “force the vote” or whatever.

The way I see it is the problem is a movement to go up against Pelosi would never surmount to anything. There are a couple of reasons why but the main reason obviously being that a majority of the dems currently in congress are happy with Pelosi as speaker. Sure, maybe many of them wouldn't mind having a more progressive speaker, but they would be content enough to oppose any challenger knowing it would further divide the party. That's why the goal, for the time being, should just be to get those people out. Replacing Eliot Engel with Jamaal Bowman was great, let's get more of that in 2022 to continue to build up the number of outsider progressives we have in congress. It's all in the past now so I don't think there is much point debating it anymore, but perhaps we should be glad they didn't try and get someone to oust Pelosi because it would definitely fail and potentially backfire on the progressive movement

i guess i get what you’re saying, but if that’s our path forward, and we’re going up against both the Republicans and the Dem establishment (and, imo, the media, as evidenced by the presidential primary), it is going to take decades to get to the point where we have control of the Democratic Party. So why is that the best course of action? Why should we continue to sink our time and effort and donations into electoral politics instead of, say, something outside the Democratic Party? I think it’s good that a left has emerged and made a dent in our political system over the past decade. That couldn’t have happened without the work of tens of thousands of leftists/progressives. But a decade in, and it’s insufficient. To me, it doesn’t feel like an efficient or effective vehicle for change.

That's definitely a surprise. Would've expected him to be first on the list to boost his MAGA credentials before his presidential run in 4 years
