1) I’ve really enjoyed the last three SBD records - I’m not big on pop-punk/emo and never liked MB because of that. But if you like sad singer-songwriter stuff, i think you’d like this. Fits the same mood when I’m listening to Silo’s Choice, the Mountain Goats, the Weakerthans or Craig Finn. The new record has sax solos and a bit more of a troubadour/lounge singer vibe that I hope he develops, it occasionally straight up reminds me of Destroyer once or twice in a way i wouldn’t have predicted three years ago when i started listening to SBD.

2) get on the Fred Thomas train, that’s one of the best songwriters out there IMO. His voice may take a bit of getting used to, but All Are Saved, Changer, and Aftering are all A+ records. He also has a new compilation up on his bandcamp called Another Song About Riding the Bus that’s in probably my top 10 of the year.

At The Moonbase Exclusive LP

 

I've never liked Modern Baseball, yet SBD has been one of my favorite bands for the past three years. Birdie is one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years. I also very much enjoyed Safe and Also No Fear. I'm enjoying this album, and it's growing on me, but still hasn't surpassed either of the two previous albums. I doubt I'll end up liking this more than Birdie, but could see it getting past SAANF.

 

I just ordered the Magenta Vinyl.

 

This record is fantastic. I feel like I now need to revisit the other SBD albums in case I didn't give them the attention they deserved.

Also- How much fun is 'A Modern Lay'?

The three song stretch of “thinking of you”, “a modern lay” and “at the moon base” is such a good run

 

This album is dope. Jake can't miss right now.
