Yeah Tulsi’s anti imperialism stance is more of an America first populism stance than any position on colonialism or authoritarianism. She’s been very reluctant to condemn anti Muslim and certain inhumane regimes and has even been ok with hawkish behavior if there is enough American interest.
Her going in on Kamala doesn’t buy a lot of goodwill imo, it’s a debate and that was an easy thing to attack Kamala on. It’s just like I don’t think Kamala is progressive just because she called Joe Biden racist in a debate.

1. Fuck Julian Assange. It was cool 10 years ago when he was just exposing secrets but it became quite clear what his agenda was the last few years. And it’s an alt-right one. No one should be clamoring to free him now. He can get fucked.

Yeah, I’m all for calling out AOC and other people ostensibly on the left. They should definitely be doing more to oppose Pelosi, and they aren’t there to be defended or to be our friends. I think the Brie Joy Gray argument around “conditioning our vote” is compelling, as well, even though i don’t have faith that the Dems could be moved left at all in any case. But if you highlight Greenwald and Tulsi as paragons of virtue, that’s weird as shit. There is a small but loud strain of what I’d call the “non-ideological” left that are easy marks.

People confuse politicians with populist instincts as being “good” because we are so unaccustomed to politicians saying anything that resonates with constituents. It’s like Trump “advocating” for $2000 checks. He’s not suddenly good, or even “good” on that specific issue - he just knows it will appeal to people (also the knowledge that McConnell won’t let it happen, so there’s some level of kayfabe involved).

 

Also what Assange is being prosecuted and extradited for is dangerous and worthy of discussion. He should be held accountable for the sexual assaults he committed and for what looked like coordinated election interference, but it’s my understanding the US is going after him under the espionage act for exposing what should be US war crimes and we should be opposing that.

 

Populism can be used as a trojan horse by shitbag politicians.
