If the Jets go QB at 2 I can almost guarantee they go offense with that second pick.

    The rivalry is back on

hopefully Blackmon’s season for IND off the ACL tear will help Cisco’s draft stock

I think Trevon Moehrig, Andre Cisco, or Paris Ford could go in the first.

Also a fan of Sterns, Nasirildeen, Holland, LeCounte, Bolden, Stevens, Harris, Grant, Blankenship, Wiggins, Thompson, and Eisworth. Not in the first or anything but I think there's a strong amount of safeties in this draft that could be at least role players.

Denver will need to take a safety if they dont work a deal with Simmons or re-sign Kareem Jackson.

Dillon Gabriel? Kaleb Eleby? Layne Hatcher? Tyler Shough? Chase Garbers? Sean Clifford? Spencer Sanders?

Sam Howell is the only "prestige" name I know for next year that could be any good.

For the NFL, Gabriel, Eleby, Hatcher, Clifford, and Sanders...absolutely not.

    Garbers and Shough, maybe

I'm not has high on Sam Howell as an NFL prospect as many seem to be either.

One of Jurkovec, Strong, and Daniels will be my QB1 heading into the 2022 rankings.

Cool, was pretty much just listing the rest of the sophomores you didn't mention lol.

I'm not high on Howell, he's just the only name I know that's for sure going to at least be mentioned next year. I've only seen multiple games from him and Shough this year.

I would still take Sewell. Fant is already 28 and only has $2M dead cap next season. You could trade him for something to a tackle needy team. Becton / Sewell would just be so cool to see together.

Too many other holes. The Jets are bad EVERYWHERE but LT and DT. It's not like this is a down year. The roster is legitimately terrible due to a series of inept general managers before Joe Douglas.

Penei Sewell is very clearly the second best prospect in the draft behind only Trevor Lawrence, but if Mekhi Becton keeps playing this way, he will demand top tackle (like best tackle in the league) money. Sewell could be better. You can't justify paying both of them top dollar. It would keep you weak in too many other places.

I appreciate your different perspective, and the fact that you have more of a vested interest in what the Jets do as a fan.

I just personally don’t get why it’s coveted to have two great EDGEs, CBS, WRs etc no matter what the cost but we don’t look at tackles that way. The tackle position has just as great of an impact and is arguably harder to find elite talent than any of those other positions.

The Jets will be awful for another 1-2 years regardless what you do so why not build the least flashy / most long term responsible position first. I feel like the only benefit to drafting a sexier position over a Penei Sewell level OT is if it could legitimately push you into the playoffs.

To me it’s a win-win - you’re setting yourself up to suck again right away for an early-first round QB next year, which is better than going 6-10. But then it also is the responsible long term move to establish a rhythm and a team chemistry, for the next QB to slide in and have a stable pocket to learn from.

I would rather have two elite tackles and only really be able to pay one WR a big contract / frequently draft the rest... than the other way around. I think good OL / subpar weapons teams are good more often than good weapons / subpar OL teams. And I also think the scarcity argument applies -it’s easier to draft, plug and play a position like WR... than a position like T. A tackle plays every snap against the best pass rushers in the league and has tiny margin for error or room for inconsistency. As a GM, I’d much sooner trust myself to draft mid round WRs that are immediately useful in some slot packages, and lean on two tackles that I KNOW have a very elusive position locked down.
