I can fully accept that haha I don't deny their talent, just not for me. I've tried multiple times at very different points in my life. I'm sure there's great stuff happening underneath the surface, but there's just nothing to hook me in and make me want to go deeper.

this is me but for bleachers

really like the steel train s/t and much of what else jack has been involved w but I think it's something about his vocals on bleachers stuff that I cannot get into

    talented gent tho for sure

  3. This takes awhile, but will be fun and worth it in the long run.

It auto-pits 2 Taylor songs against each other, and you pick your favorite of the 2. It goes through every commercially available song of hers. When you're all done, post your top 10 lists.

My friend sent me that a couple nights ago. It was a beast to get through but this was my top 20:

it's funny because the vocals are why I don't like The National, though they are obviously talented gents

Pretty accurate. Hard to say if some of those newer songs will stay there or if it’s because they’re new, but as far as how I feel right now, this is pretty spot on.

I really really like the National, but thinking they're generally boring is a pretty understandable opinion tbqh, I can't even think about "Walk It Back" without getting drowsy

i’ve been meaning to tell you

I don't super care for Bleachers or the National, but I'm sure they're all very talented people.

I think on these albums the Jack songs are my favorites (my tears ricochet, mirrorball, and gold rush are probably my top 3). I think Cornelia St. was the first time he really nailed the production on a TS song, and everything he did on these two albums is incredible. It seems like he really gets her after all this time working together. The Aaron songs are stunning as well, I just feel like evermore could've used one more Jack song to balance it out a bit.

    what a waste of wood

Could never be upset at someone for not being able to get into The National.

I found them challenging to get into at the start. In fact, at the first Eaux Claires I didn't bother paying attention to their closing set because I really didn't care for them AT ALL. Though, given how many people I love and respect loved them so much, I kept trying. In around 2016 it finally clicked. It was "Pink Rabbits" that did it for me.

When it finally happened it was one of the most rewarding/significant moments of my music listening career. Though I’ll never forgive myself for missing that set that saw Sufjan and JV on stage with them.

this for me as well. it’s like he’s singing with a mouth full of liquid at almost all times. and I really love when his voice is more distinct like in Coney Island.

  15. Here's my top 20, according to that generator. I'm SHOCKED that "Forever and Always" and/or "Forever and Always (Piano Version) didn't even track the top 20, but other than that, this seems pretty accurate.

Jack is awesome and Bleachers definitely have more than 6 good songs, but The National have 6 great albums line was perfectly stated. Honestly it's apples and oranges but The National is a way better band to my tastes* - they're in the best band of the 2010s or last 20 years discussion for certain, while Bleachers is just good.

*I really want to say objectively but that feels dismissive of some truly excellent pop music

That all said I stand by Jack having the better chunk of folklore :)

Every "ooo-OOO" on 'dorothea' hits like cocaine. What a song. The 'Starlight' of this album methinks

Some of these opinions on the national make me think some of you have never actually listened to the national.

Listening to The National in large doses can put someone into a depression. But I’m ok with that as they are so talented. The lyrics alone are what get me so I don’t mind his monotone voice.

  24. Lyrics are generally the last thing I pay attention to in music, so maybe that’s another reason why I haven’t fully connected with that band.
