I really would like to hear the two bonus tracks from this.

I think her rhythmic, almost music box type of singing on "closure" is very catchy but maybe not the best match for the overall tone. It works as kind of a frank acknowledgement and dismissal, which is what I take from the song, but the hurt really only shines through when she goes long on the tears/beers/candles section.

  3. Oh, I should've specified. It's not the vocal that bugs me on closure. The mix bugs me to the moon and saturn.

I am really liking evermore but think it suffers a little from less Jack songs than Folklore.

less jack songs is never a bad thing, especially when that means more aaron dessner songs

but folklore jack > folklore aaron

granted national over bleachers isn't particularly close and I say that as a big fan of both

Re: tolerate it, I completely agree that verse doesn't quite work, I love the piano part but the vocals don't click, I couldn't hum it to you even after listening several times. Its a shame because that chorus is a highlight of the album for me.

With “tolerate it” I think the piano is playing in one bar phrases but Taylor is singing in two bar phrases. Almost feels like she’s structured the vocals in 10 and all the music underneath is in 5

I'm a big fan of the effect it creates, it's like the weight of expectations vs the reality of the relationship she's in

or something idk I just got off night shift and should not be posting on any subject

Yeah I agree! It gives it kind of a wobbly off balance feel that I think is really effective. With both this and "closure" I really like the way she writes in 5. Really smart stuff on her end melodically

I’m just messing really. Gone Now has some real slammers but I’ve never listened to anything else. He’s one of the most talented dudes on the planet but it doesn’t really connect with me a lot.
