Not that. They repressed Virgin and Simple Math.

Next year, maybe right before LP6.

Will it be released digitally as well?

All through Patreon. Don't expect it on Spotify for a long while. The biggest pull of Patreon was originally Sinful Math.

I mean for purchase, digitally. Like bandcamp or iTunes.

So, even the vinyl won't be available outside of Patreon?

I'd find that hard to believe.

I was subscribed in the beginning, they said there will be vinyl outside of the Patreon. Patreon gets first dibs, assuming they’ll just do it the same way they did the METN 10 year vinyl.

I could definitely see Patreon subscribers getting first dibs, but if they want to maximize their profits, they'd be fools to not open it to fans outside of Patreon.

Another potential option would be a Patreon exclusive variant. They did that with the bad books repress

It will absolutely go public at some point, just believe that one, in particular, will be the longest exclusive on Patreon. I'd expect it on Patreon first as vinyl, then digital on Patreon, then bandcamp and maybe iTunes, and then eventually streaming.

I get paid fan clubs like Patreon getting perks but please allow me to buy your music, even if it means waiting until members get at it first for a while.

For sure, and it will. I just think they're doing what they can to try to get people to be a part of the fan club if they want these exclusive B sides from a decade ago as they had to push back their album release and tour quite a bit and have missed out on some income.

They've already gotten like $160 in membership fees from me, not including the 6 or so vinyl releases I've also purchased from them this year lol.

(Also, I call first dibs ;-) but Andy is releasing some handwritten lyrics around Christmas)

I get it sort of. The Sinful Math stuff had been teased for a while though so I’ve been curious to hear it for years.

I just wish these patreons didn’t hold new music hostage. That’s really it. Exclusive access to merch, shows, info, live sets, early streams, Q and A’s, all that stuff I get. Even if wide release is delayed it get.

I like how with the Christmas songs they released to Exclusive fans first but made it available to the masses to sample and buy. I wish that was model, even if it was a couple weeks or months later. I know that one had a charitable cause attached so it made sense to reach a wide audience, but I hope the give “the common fan access” in time.

We reach for the longest shadow

if it bothers you that much why wouldnt people just buy access to the patreon for that month and then buy the vinyl?

I do think that there is a slight difference between new music like an LP6, or I Know How To Speak, and old music files they had from deep within the catalog that were unreleased B sides, but I fully understand your sentiment.

And only because we heard about the Sinful Math songs well before Patreon and the possibility of their release before things changed. But demos and other exclusive old stuff, I get there is a boundary that has to be made. It’d be disappointing to miss out on a Know How To Speak.

    I do not exist.

I think making the physical elements exclusive (or at least pre-sold) through Patreon is a good business model, but I’d question the logic of not putting things on Bandcamp from a financial sense.

I can’t afford their Patreon on the regular but I will happily pay one offs for an album of b sides because it’s Manchester Orchestra and it will be full of gems.

I’m sure with this year others are in that boat so to miss out on that added income (even if it came a month after putting it out on Patreon or something) seems strange.

I’d anticipate it being a similar release to everything else they’ve done. An exclusive variant is what I’d expect, prior to public presale.

The Patreon is buying the boxset even though the show is on Netflix. You get bonus content and deleted scenes. But it’ll all come out eventually.

The band needs income. They all have families at this point. The fact that they put in the effort they do should be commended.

I think people want to buy the content without being in Patreon. Or I do anyway. I’m not saying throw it up on a streaming service. I am saying more release it on band camp and iTunes. Lots of us have families too, and I think the more options that are out there for sales, and more price ranges the better. So people but digital, some will box box sets. I used to get an album and the hopefully see a show and buy merch depending. The lack of shows and safe environment to do so right now sucks.

I actually don’t use music streaming services, although I will sample on YouTube, SoundCloud or bandcamp.

Also, having control of your music and releases is looking really smart right now, so compliments to these guys for putting in the work.
