I am at $950 for damn near an 1000 square foot loft style apartment one county to the west of Wayne. Though heating/cooling this place is not fun since its a historic building/one high ceilinged room.

Yeah I imagine the trend of less young professionals buying (thanks, student loans) and people moving back toward cities, maybe not downtown but to more populated areas, means that rental properties are probably going to do fine for a while.

I was just repeating what the poster who mentioned the price and apartment quality was saying. It's really hard for me to say what a solid square footage is because like you said all about utilization of the actual space and what amenities are involved for the price. I am also from a place where $1,800 could rent you a solid whole house so that amount is nuts to me.

My girlfriend is moving in with me after the new year and agreed to split rent and electricity so that would be a financial relief for me and her.

From my albeit limited knowledge of the market through friends and family who are buying, an asking price offer is basically going to be rejected. I think people are so excited about how much they're saving based on the mortgage rate, that they're willing to pay more up front. I haven't done the math to know if $100k over asking price would ultimately save money compared to the mortgage rates of years past, but I'm assuming that's part of what's driving the trend of asking price and up being the norm.

I have winter and a 2br apartment with maybe 1k sq ft for $1350. But there are also 1br apartments 5 minutes away downtown that go for $1800, it makes no damn sense.

denver, obviously have winter, 1br 670-something sqft and it's $1500. We're trying to save for a downpayment on a house because we have more than outgrown the apartment with us and the dogs and need at least 1 more bedroom if not 2.

I don't know why I got caught up in the no winter thing, maybe because we are actually getting our first solid snowfall lol. I could go to some richer areas of the Metro Detroit Area and pay similar rent to what he was saying.

I wouldn't hold your breath over Smart TV apps. Those things become obsolete in just a few short years because TV manufacturers put in the cheapest hardware possible and then forget about ever updating them once they launch more powerful TVs. My 2016 WebOS LG TV is basically unusable as a smart tv lol.

If I were a developer for HBO, I would push against dealing with that mess of a fragmented ecosystem.

Yeah even the housing market in Akron, Ohio has exploded. Which there’s no real reason for it, this is still an economically depressed area. The cynic in me thinks there’s something fishy going on again with mortgages.

tbf, the thing about a mortgage is the price is locked in, the only thing that will change it over 30 years is property tax increases which are usually very small.
So we’re paying 15-1600 per month now and, 20 years from now, will probably be paying 16-1700 tops. Whereas rent could swing wildly in that time period

Damn 1600 per month seems like a big mortgage payment.

Our mortgage for 3 bed/2 bath 1400sqft. 2 lots in town is $651. Taxes and insurance included. It’s SO cheap to live here and we’ll own the house in 11 years. I cannot imagine those kinds of prices.

I'm curious how NH's housing costs stack up against other states when factoring in that we have no state income or sales taxes here, so that helps save some money. I hear our property taxes are absolutely outrageous, though

for a 4 bedroom, 2 full bath with a decent amount of living space it’s pretty good. To put it into context, 1 bedroom apartments in the burbs around here seem to sit around $1000-$1200. You can get cheaper but then you’re getting into some sketchy areas crime wise.

Our 1 bedroom in the city was in a historic house that was converted to apartments and that was $1200 per month. Decent size but couldn’t tell you the square footage haha. Maybe 900 or so? Some of the apartment buildings in that same area, the places are smaller and more affordable. But 4 bedrooms and 2 baths and a yard for only a few hundred bucks more per month? Def worth it. But at our paltry teacher salaries this is about as much as we can afford to spend on housing haha. Anything higher then that and we’d have to cut back on a lot of shit and get kinda house poor.

We live in the affordable nice area around here btw (northern DE)...you go across the line in any direction (MD/NJ/PA) and the prices and property taxes go up pretty fast. Maybe not as much in MD because that’s the more rural part of the state, but the school systems there apparently reallllly suck (and it’s super racist, lots of KKK history in some of those areas)

Yeah I mean, considering it's a newer TV, you might luck out and be fine. I think I still have HBO Now on my TV, but no HBO Max and I don't expect it since apps like Hulu have been completely discontinued on it at this point heh. But it had a lot of good stuff when I first bought it.

Worst case, you can just drop $30 on a 4K Roku stick :-p
