I'm a fan of it, too. I think he does the throwback sound very well without being overtly derivative with it.

 

Jason Isbell's guitarist, Sadler Vaden, released his new solo album this past Friday. It's decent stuff.

 

Been listening to the new Jon Pardi album a lot lately and I gotta say, if "Dirt On My Boots" wasn't on there, I really wouldn't have any qualms with the record at all, save for a few iffy lyrics. It's a shame such an obvious push-for-radio-play song drags down an otherwise very enjoyable album.

 

Oh and TIL that Lori McKenna was a co-writer on that shit awful wet fart of a song "Girl Crush" and it's kinda fucking with my head.

 

She also wrote "Humble and Kind" for Tim McGraw, which is a great song both done by him and by her. I don't mind "Girl Crush" so much either.

 

I also like "Halfway Home", both her original version and Logan Brill's

 

I actually like Brill's version a fair amount more than hers, but yeah, that's a pretty great song. Plus, she co-wrote the best song on the latest Brandy Clark album.

 

I like this Lori McKenna album for sure, I'm just not totally in love with it yet. Been into the new albums from Derik Hultquist and Andrew Leahey though. I've reached the point where I'll pretty much buy anything with the Thirty Tigers label on it ha. It's weird they're not an actual record label.

I've also been feeling this song a lot lately, the Chris Knight guest vocal just seals it.

 

Heard my first Brooks and Dunn album this week and was a surprisingly big fan.

Also heard Garth Brooks' Man Against Machine which is...hmm.

 

I really like the first five songs on this album, but I think the second half is honestly kind of painful. I really don't like any of the songs from "Dirt on My Boots" to "Paycheck." The last two bring it back a bit, but he's usually lost me by then. I really, really hate "Heartache on the Dance Floor."

 

I'm enjoying this Casey Donahew album. Checked it out on a whim, having never heard of him before but I'm feeling it.

 

I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. His previous stuff was under the Casey Donahew Band and was more on the alternative country sound from what I remember. This seems a bit more straightforward/radio friendly (which I don't mean as a bad thing). I like hearing some of these artists bringing back the rodeo life into country, seems like that kinda fell away for a bit.

 

so I'm actually digging Keifer Sutherland's new country album for the most part.

 

Listened to Church's The Outsiders for the first time and, with the exception of a few duds, was pretty blown away

 

Title track, Dark Side, Give Me Back My Hometown and Like a Wrecking Ball are all easily among my favorite Church songs. I'd still say that "Mr. Misunderstood" is my favorite record of his overall though.

 

New Dolly Parton isn't quite as good as Blue Smoke was but a good solid album from one of the greatest to ever do it

Hard to pick for me. Both have their down spots and really killer tracks. I'll need time with both

 

Anyone listen to BJ Barham's (American Aquarium) new solo record released last Friday? Only a couple songs in so far but I'm digging it.

 

It's good stuff. Pretty easily my favorite thing he has done.

 

Heard the first two Brooks and Dunn records and enjoyed them very much. In particular, "That Ain't No Way to Go" is one of the best songs of the 90s in any genre.

Also rediscovered Flying Colors by Robert Ellis Orrall, which I fucking love but had kind of forgotten about over the years. The cover and the production are hopelessly 90s, but the vocals and the writing... damn.

 

If you can get past the dated (but well-suited) production, this song is gorgeous:

I'm trying to be less negative in general lately but goddammit do I wanna sound off on every social media platform possible about how much I absolutely hate Florida Georgia Line and everything they represent.

 

They are the actual worst
