maybe the changes that come with becoming a twenty-something? Seems like it's dealing with a lot of fallout from the narrators past couple years. I must say, as a 23 year old, this year has been the most unstable and malleable year in my life as far as things changing and me coming to grips with the fact that I'm an adult with real responsibilities. Could well be just about a relationship and the fallout from that, but I think there's more to it. The thesis statement for Futures has always been "things are changing" and 23 feels like the closing paragraph.

Listening to the discog and it's crazy just how dynamic this band is. They try different styles and incorporate many different instruments and techniques in their music to keep things fresh but familiar. The best band

Just some of my favorite JEW b-sides:

    Open Bar Reception
Take 'Em As They Come (I'm sure one of @Craig Manning favorite)
    Firestarter
    The Concept
    Spangle
    Step One
    Big Cars

Yep, more or less. I've always heard it as being about that one big heartbreak that forces you to really grow up.

Yep, "Take 'Em As They Come" might be my favorite. I love that they covered Springsteen at all, let alone one of his very best b-sides.

It's so close but I really gotta say dizzy is their best closer. This song is unreal on every level

Jim really is just such a phenomenal vocalist. The way he conveys emotion is so convincing

23 will always be the best closer. Mixtape is second

  13. I was feelin bad last night and couldn't sleep so I listened to Clarity and it helped. that album has a way of settling me

  15. I gave the new song another spin today. Still can't get into it at all. I hope the radio single is much better.

Loving the darker vibe in the new single. Song is a little too short but I like it. Welcome back JEW.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Mixtape is last. One of the worst songs they've ever done imo. Now, I love the songwriting itself, as the acoustic version he played prior to the release of the album was just beautiful. But the way they produced that track and his vocals on the album version... I was not a fan. Was such a lovely acoustic track and I think it should have stayed that way.

Edit: Although it does have stiff competition of course. Other than Mixtape, all their closers have been excellent imo.

JEW's fifth best closer is still better than 95% of bands' best closers.

I don't think mixtape is bad by any means, but it's not even on my radar for favorite JEW closers. Dizzy or 23.

Also, the new single is so great. Have to pace myself and not listen too many times.

"Mixtape" is the least musically and lyrically interesting of the "epic JEW closers" for me. I like it a lot, especially in context, but it does not hit me like "23" or "Dizzy" does, especially since it trails a better song. As for "My Sundown" and "You Were Good," I just think they cap their albums off more effectively.

I recently listened to CTL and I may have to agree

I was sorta disappointed with a few tracks but there were definitely some.highs and "Dizzy" was my favorite

Dizzy and 23 are two of my all time favorite songs. I booked JEW once and the first song they soundchecked was Dizzy and that was like the "IT'S ACTUALLY REAL" moment so it's always had some sentimental value to me.
