It’s just so easy to get away with fraud in this country when you’re rich

If only every american had a check that could help stimulate the economy by shopping at those retail stores

Seriously though, how do these republicans not realize that the corporations they're obsessed with defending still need paying customers?

Had to read some Gary Becker (Milton Friedman's prodigy) for one of my grad courses this quarter. Never in my life had I read someone pull so many statements out of thin air with no evidence to back it up and then translate it into (in many ways incorrect) mathematical statements to give it legitimacy. I wasn't sure whether to laugh at it for some of its absurdity or feel enraged considering how much harm this economic philosophy continues to do in the world

I learned waaaay more about how economics works just by reading The Economist. Reading about real world examples. It really just comes down to fundamentally understanding supply and demand

I was told the lockdowns were all about hurting small businesses so the big businesses could thrive and it’s not really about the virus because the virus isn’t that dangerous tho

Lol, yeah I've heard that the pandemic is just a ruse to kill the high Street and get everyone shopping online.

Economics is basically just the sociology of how humans allocate resources. Which, that’s fine if you understand that that puts obvious limitations on what economists are capable of actually doing. The problem that arises is that people think it is on par with a hard science and that anyone who “masters” it can easily predict the future

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

They’re gonna try and portray him as the GOP response to AOC and I’m not looking forward to seeing him thrown into every interview possible...

So many examples of this too recently. Just go look at Toys R' Us. I think that company could have lasted much longer and had a chance at pivoting a bit. But they got bought up by a VC who pumped something like $5 billion in debt into them and then they go poof.

The two good responses from celebrities finding out Obama watches their content are Alexandra Daddario and Bob Odenkirk.

That Toys R' Us story still pisses me off. I forgot they got sold off to Bain Capital. The guy who ended up their CEO was a former CEO of Dominos and the Athletic Director at the University of Michigan. How that fucking qualifies you to run a toy store company I have no idea. The year before they filed for bankruptcy, he made almost 12 fucking million dollars. I have no idea what the golden parachute payment was when he resigned but I am sure it was not insignificant.
