  2. Good question.

I have 12 tracks so far. I'm not sure who else is planning on sending me a track so I'm going to wait and see if there's anything new in the morning when I get to work. When I get to work, I'll put the track list together, and post the comp!

Did you get mine? I know it had to send the file as a Google Drive link so I'm not sure if it reached you.

  7. 1. bradsonemanband - I Can't Let Go (The Hollies)
When I was choosing what songs I wanted to do, this was one that I immediately jumped on. I've loved this song for a long time, thanks to my dad showing it to me. The original always sounded like it would sound so cool with a more punk rock feel to it, so I wanted to take a stab at playing it the way I hear the original in my head.

    2. @elemenohpe - Here Comes The Sun (The Beatles)
This is a cool cover! It actually kinda still has the oldschool Beatles sound to it.

    3. @Pseudo! - You Ain't Going Nowhere (The Byrds)
I didn't recognize this track, but man I love this! The vocal harmonies, the subtle strings in the background... These really makes the song shine. Feels straight out of the 70s.

    4. @InfiniteArms - I Put A Spell On You (Screamin' Jay Hawkins)
I've always loved this song. I love how dark your version sounds. Your guitar has that classic old "front porch" blues sound to it. I love that sound.

    5. @nohandstoholdonto - Shivers (Rowland S. Howard)
I don't know this song, but this was so awesome! I love when all the instruments come in and the vocal let loose. This is one of my favorite covers on this compilation.

    6. bradsonemanband - When Will I Be Loved? (The Everly Brothers)
This is a song I've always really liked. It's got some great sad lyrics, but musically sounded very happy. I stayed pretty true to the original on this one.

    7. @Jdaniels - Leaving On A Jet Plane (John Denver)
This is a great cover. Your voice sounds very fitting for it. This song is a classic, and I think you pretty much nailed it.

    8. @accelerateto88 - Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
I love this Billy Joel song, and you really did it justice! I love the punk rock sound you gave it.

    9. @Jesse West - Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd)
I really like the moodiness of this. The distant guitar in the background really makes this sound haunting, and it's awesome!

    10. @Jdaniels - Ol' '55 (Tom Waits)
I've never been a fan of Tom Waits. There's maybe two songs that I've heard that I actually like though. I don't know if I've ever heard the original version of this song, but I really like this cover!

    11. bradsonemanband - In My Room (The Beach Boys)
The Beach Boys are a band that's been in my life since the womb. They're my dad's all time favorite band, so he's played their music my entire life. Last summer, I got to go see Brian Wilson with my dad (my first time, his billionth time) but I couldn't help but get emotional during the set since Brian Wilson's music has always been in my life. It was kinda surreal to see him perform. I even got emotional during songs like "Surfin USA" which I felt really silly about, but whatever. It was really cool to spend that evening with my dad seeing his favorite musician. So I decided to do a Beach Boys song for my dad. Even though I changed the song quite a bit, musically, my dad gave this version his stamp of approval! Phew!

    12. @therookielot - Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Presley)
Man, I've always loved this song! And this version you did is gorgeous. I wanted to make it the closer because it sounds so much like a lullaby to me. I love this!

Hey thanks a ton for the feedback! :) I just discovered the song a few weeks back after Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! shared it on her Twitter (she's covered it several times with and without the band).

To anyone who hasn't heard it, I'd definitely suggest listening to this version of the song:

Hey thanks. I was trying to go more for a haunting/heart breaky/Lana sound. That's why you'll hear a little nuance on the reprise. I actually used a visualization technique with an "Aurora Blaster" for the tempo, it shoots a wave of light and colors on the ceiling. So that's probably why it sounds more lullaby-ish. I love that these compilations allow us to get more creative with a wave of sound, can't wait to listen to the rest!

Just finished my first listen. Great job everybody! I'm going to listen to these again with headphones on and leave some individual feedback later.

As for the next tribute, I've never been much of a mwY fan. Seen them live a few times and have tried out the majority of their discography... I know they're hella talented but they never really clicked for me. *shrugs* I'd hope for something I'm more familiar with but, I guess mwY would be a challenge then. Whatevs.

I really want to participate in the next one of these if I have something I want to do for it!
Just throwing an idea out there, is it too weird of a place in the year to do like a "favorite songs of 2016 so far covers", or at this point does it just make sense to wait till the end of the year for something like that?

  12. I think we're sticking with the schedule of doing Band, Band, Mixtape, Band, Band, Mixtape, etc. So if we stick with that schedule, then November would be the next Mixtape compilation, and I'd definitely push for it to be a "Best of 2016." We did a "Best of 2015" one last year and it was awesome.

When are we gonna do Tegan & Sara???

    I'm waiting

  14. Tegan & Sara would be a fun one. Maybe that'll make it onto the poll for the next comp.

In a couple days, we can start talking about the next one more. I'll post a poll with a couple different bands to choose from in the middle of this week probably, and we can vote and hopefully have a winner announced on Friday.

Could Mike Kinsella bands count as a band and not a compilation haha?

  16. Oh man, I can't imagine doing a Mike Kinsella compilation... I'd feel like I couldn't do any of the songs justice! haha. But I think "Mike Kinsella" could be considered just a band comp.

I made a Spotify playlist of all of the original songs we covered! Unfortunately though, I couldn't find "Shivers" on Spotify, so I apologize!
