Haha I never had that issue with the camera work. If anything, I felt it added to the fear, confusion, and mystery of it. But I'll definitely look into that! Never seen it

You're not even gonna mention that The Host is directed by Korean cinema bad boy Bong Joon Ho?

Eugene Levy definitely looks pretty good in Schitts Creek. Just doesn't help when hes standing next to Dan and Doc Holladay

If David and Patrick are pandering what in the world do you call the plethora of sweeps season 3 episode long lesbian relationships that pop up in network television

Not to triple post but I really can’t get over that take. We’ve had years of queer relationships being watered down or only about “two hot gurlz making out lulz.” Dan Levy, an actual gay person, brings so much authenticity to both David and the way that relationship is written. I can’t fathom how that relationship can read as anything other than a depiction that’s been a long time overdue

Haha yeah, I mean watching the show alone just proves that take wrong. But then listening to Dan speak about the importance of crafting such realistic characters in a realistic relationship...and the letter they read in the finale special along with all of the other praise from people who connected to the show. It’s just so inaccurate.

David and Patrick's relationship was the furthest thing away from being "pandering," that's such an asinine thing to say

When I first started watching, I thought Roland would be a crooked mayor that would be a huge problem for the Roses after offending him, and I'm so glad it didn't go down that road haha

I haven't seen Schitt's Creek yet but it sounds like every other Chris Elliott role then lol. Why does he end up looking disgusting in everything he's in?

With the Godfather Part III being recently re-released in a new cut, it is important to say that Sofia Coppola received way too much blame for her performance in the film. Yes, the performance is bad; it would take a very dedicated contrarian to go against that. However, who directed the performance?

At least once a week there is a movie announced with a couple of actors that people like and people will say how excited they are because of the cast, but then you look at the director's name and they have either never made a movie or made quite a few bad ones. While actors can bring a lot to a role, ultimately they are trying to work within the directors' vision, and if you are being directed badly you are going to perform badly. Bad direction can come from intentional choices, but it also comes from inexperienced directors, or directors who are intimidated by the presence of their actors. Meryl Streep has quite a few films where she works with some deeply inexperienced director who is never going to say no to someone of her stature and she ends up wildly overacting (which a lot of actors are going to do without restraints). However, that same Meryl Streep is one of the most gifted and accomplished actors of all time, given the right director. Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino and many others have done the same thing. This is why it feels like Groundhog Day every time we have the "Wait, Kristen Stewart/Robert Pattinson/Adam Sandler/Jonah Hill/Channing Tatum can act?!?" conversation. Kristen Stewart was not being given great direction but then performed poorly in Twilight, but rather she was doing it in the way she was coached.

So, if you are on a film set, being directed by a man who made four consecutive masterpieces in the 1970's, making the third film in one of the most important film trilogies in cinema, and you have never had a major role before, and it is somehow not primarily on the director who placed you there? Not only is Francis Ford Coppola a major auteur, he is her father and someone whose genius she has had to hear about her entire life. The fact that she had not been in many roles isn't even the hindrance people think it is; the history of film is filled with great performances by actors who had never performed before, and some of them never performed again. The greatest film of all time is led by an 18-year-old girl who had never acted before, and the memorable Luca Brasi performance came from a wrestler named Lenny Montana. A skilled director works with their shortcomings to make something interesting, and Coppola himself was able to get great work out of many young actors with limited experience in the first Godfather film.

The film itself is the problem, with an absurd storyline that does not appropriately carry the arcs of the original films. Michael is not supposed to be suddenly seeking redemption, Kay is not supposed to reconcile with Michael, Connie is not supposed to be consigliere, and there is not supposed to be a helicopter attack on a reception. We are lucky that Sofia Coppola did not leave the film industry altogether, because she received so much hate and scorn, especially someone of her age.
